Kingdom Hearts: 10 Hardest Bosses, Ranked

0

Kingdom Hearts isn’t often recognized for how difficult its bosses can get as the game’s main story can be beaten with only moderate trouble by most gamers — if they have a bit of patience. Some early main story bosses can be a grind to get past. The later game bosses, the secret bosses, and the one added in the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix version are some of the most difficult in gaming as they begin to require more skill.

The bosses that will be mentioned are those that took a lot of well-timed attacks and dodging skills to get past. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix bosses will be considered as well since it served as DLC to the original game, rather than being a stand-alone title.

10 Anti-Sora

Anti-Sora has a lot of problems, some of which can be attributed to the fact that the room the fight takes place in is exceptionally tight. The tightness of the room where the fight takes place makes it so that the camera angles are constantly acting up which makes this fight even more difficult as Anti-Sora does a move where he splits into multiple versions of himself and walks forward so that the players have to find him again.

If the player levels high enough, the boss can be on the easier side, but this is where the game begins to increase heavily in its difficulty.

9 Ansem (Solo)

As one of the final fights in the game, Ansem put on a great battle that tests the player’s ability and the skills that they have gained on their journey through the game. This boss is aesthetically sound. Ansem is floating around the map while a Heartless attacks Sora for him. The Heartless floats behind him and feels like a true culmination of his darkness.

The player needs to time the dodges well so that they can avoid the large linear and area-of-effect attacks that Ansem performs. It’s a great fight that isn’t ever frustrating, but it offers a nice challenge.

8 Ansem Riku

Ansem Riku can be extremely difficult if the player does not prepare for fighting him. He’s fast and will be able to take Sora out pretty easily if the player is not using different defensive spells such as Aero. Ansem Riku’s third phase also has him using an attack where he will teleport around Sora and fling himself toward Sora with his Keyblade in front of him.

A lot of Ansem Riku’s attacks can be dangerous as they can trap players in situations where they will fall extremely low in health, or they could be instantly juggled and killed by the attack.

7 World Of Chaos

World of Chaos is the last boss in the game and the hardest boss that is required to beat the story. This boss takes a lot of what the player knows mechanically and switches it up. There are multiple phases where the player will have to rely on combat that takes place predominantly while Sora is flying. This makes fewer movement options available for the player to use.

Some portals will contain fights loaded with the hardest Heartless in the game. It’s a difficult boss fight that feels fair when players manage to finally get through it. It’s also massive in scale, making it highly entertaining.

6 Ice Titan

The Ice Titan fight in Kingdom Hearts will have the player running around the boss until they can create an opening and gain the upper hand. Sora will need to block at the perfect moments in order to fling projectiles back at the boss initially. Once the player has avoided enough attacks and has done enough damage, then the Ice Titan will fall, and players will be able to hit its face.

Getting to the point where it drops gets progressively more difficult as his attacks start to get faster and deadlier.

5 Leon And Yuffie

The fight against Leon and Yuffie is one of the hardest early fights if the player decides that they want to attempt it as soon as it becomes available. The fight is unlocked after the Monstro world is completed. Players can go to the Olympus Coliseum world and challenge them there. The fight is hard early on as both characters can easily take out Donald and Goofy, which then leaves the player more open to attacks from Leon and Yuffie.

Even at later levels, the fight is somewhat difficult, but it is nowhere near as difficult as it is when it’s initially unlocked.

4 Phantom

The Phantom has an interesting trick as he will make sure to cast doom on the player’s companions which will kill them once the hour hand on the clock makes a full rotation. The good thing is that players can cast Stop or Stopra if they have unlocked it on the clock to stop their teammates from dying as quickly.

The boss will also make players have to switch through different forms of magic to kill him as different colors underneath him will require different forms of magic to be used against him to deal damage.

3 Kurt Zisa

Players must be very well-prepared to take on this fight as they will have to do both physical and magic damage against Kurt Zisa. Kurt Zisa will start by doing slashing attacks with his different sword arms. The boss will continue to go through a phase where magic damage doesn’t work against him and one where only magic damage will work.

Every time that he switches forms, he adds a new attack to his arsenal, with the attacks getting progressively more and more difficult as the battle goes on.

2 Sephiroth

Out of all the base game bosses that are available in Kingdom Hearts, Sephiroth is the most difficult fight in the game. This fight will make it so that players have to fight against Sephiroth alone. Fighting against him alone will be difficult as players will need to ensure that Sora is at a high level and has the highest healing magic that can be obtained in the game.

Sephiroth deals some of the highest damage in the game, and its imperative to understand how to deal with his retaliation attacks as players can easily get caught in a combo and killed.

1 Unknown

Unknown is by far the hardest boss in the first Kingdom Hearts game. He’s more difficult than Sephiroth, and the fight lets you take in companions which says a lot about how difficult fighting this boss is. This Unknown boss has a spinning lightsaber-looking attack that gets more dangerous as the fight progresses. The boss will also shoot out a barrage of lasers at Sora and his companions.

There are a lot of different strategies that can be used to take down the boss, but a lot of skill is still required. Preparation is key to the battle as knowing the right items to use will prevent the player from dying.
