Katekyo Hitman Reborn, one of the many beloved shonen series of the early 2000s, has a new project in the works according to a certain anime insider.

These past few months, fans of Reborn have all been clinging to the hope of a new anime getting announced. And for good reason. There have been several hints lately pointing out that something is coming, and we detailed them in a previous story. Many fans in Japan especially expect the manga by Akira Amano to get a new anime soon, and now it looks like it’s happening for real.

Spanku, a Twitter account with a pretty good track record when it comes to leaking anime projects, stated a new Katekyo Hitman Reborn anime is in the works. Spanku has these past few months leaked most notably the NieR Automata anime adaptation and the Bastard! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy anime series.

Reboot Or Sequel? Only Time Will Tell

The Spanku account tends to leak anime series a few days or weeks before their official announcement. (Though certain projects, like the above mentioned Bastard, were leaked several months in advance.)

It’s safe to assume the Reborn anime will be officially announced in these upcoming weeks. The original manga by Akira Amano is also celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, so the anime could be part of the celebrations. When it comes to Japanese media, anniversary projects are often announced and launched long before the actual anniversary date.

The new Reborn! anime will be either a reboot restarting from the beginning of the manga, or a sequel adapting the final arcs, which were not adapted in the 2000s anime.

Why This Is Very Likely A Reboot

Personally speaking, my guess is this is a reboot, seeing reboot projects are quite marketable lately, from Fruits Basket to Shaman King. With the globalization of anime production, and the fact that anime are now made for a worldwide audience, it’s more and more common for long-running series to get full anime adaptations. A privilege reserved to only a select few a some decades ago.

This is why I’m persuaded this is a Katekyo Hitman Reborn reboot, which will adapt the full manga. If so, the number of episodes or cours the series gets will be crucial. As even four cours/50 episodes with frenetic pacing will be quite short to adapt all 411 chapters of the manga. If this anime is officially confirmed to be reboot, then pacing is my opinion the most worrying point.

Anime Leaks Are More And More Common

Speaking of anime globalization, this might be one of the reasons why anime projects leaks became a regular occurrence these past few years. Starting the late 2010s decade. In a sense, It’s impressive leaks aren’t even more common seeing how many individuals are involved in an anime series’ production. In particular, anime projects linked with Netflix tend to get leaked early.

In any case, we’ll be sure to let you know if an official announcement drops. Be sure to follow the Katekyo Hitman Reborn official Twitter in the meantime. It’s only promoting merch as of now, but if the anime is real, it’ll be first announced there.
