Gamera is a giant, fire-breathing turtle monster that first made its debut in 1965 in Daiei’s film Daikaijū Gamera. The film was intended to compete with the cult classic, giant monster movie we all know and love, Godzilla. In keeping true to its goal, the franchise released over 10 films, and the 12th and most recent one, Chiisaki Yūsha-tachi Gamera, released in 2006. Over a decade later, Gamera is returning.
