Earlier this year, MAPPA confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen anime will return with a second season in 2023. However, at the time, the Japanese animation studio didn’t reveal much about Season 2’s episode count or story arcs. Well, the wait is finally over, as the creators recently released a new teaser visual while also confirming some key details of the upcoming season.

A few days back, MAPPA released the first teaser visual for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, which featured the high-school versions of Gojo Satoru, Geto Suguru, and Shoko Ieiri. The teaser confirmed that the second season would adapt Gojo’s Past Arc (Hidden Inventory) from Gege Akutami’s manga series. Well, the second season will offer much more than Gojo’s backstory.

At the TOHO 10th anniversary event, MAPPA revealed another visual that has Gojo Satoru, Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki. In the second visual, there’s a text saying “Shibuya Incident.” So, the much-awaited Season 2 of MAPPA’s popular anime series will cover not one but two crucial story arcs from the manga.

At the same time, MAPPA also confirmed that the second season would run for two consecutive cours. Generally, each ‘Cour’ consists of 12 or 13 episodes, and it lasts for about three months (with weekly releases). So, a two-cour-run means that Jujutsu Kaisen will have around 24-26 episodes in Season 2, and if the anime doesn’t go on hiatus after completing the first Cour, we’ll get new Jujutsu Kaisen content for about six months. The first Cour will feature the Hidden Inventory Arc, whereas the second Cour will cover the events of the Shibuya District.

Anime fans were recently left disappointed after MAPPA announced that Chainsaw Man’s first season would run for only 12 episodes. So, the community is thrilled that they are doing things differently with Jujutsu Kaisen.

We still don’t have an exact release date for Season 2. So far, we know that the new season will premiere sometime in 2023, and several fans think that it would be sometime around January, but there’s no confirmation from MAPPA regarding the same. Also, MAPPA didn’t release any PV for the upcoming season, so it’s safe to assume that the creators are keeping the trailer on hold for the release date announcement.
