Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Release Date Confirmed With New Trailer

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is now confirmed to start airing on July 6, according to the latest trailer shown at the AnimeJapan 2023 event.

The upcoming season is one to look out for, as it will witness the reveal of Satoru Gojo’s past – a character who has played a central role in the story since its inception, and a figure of unparalleled power in the animescape.

The story arc itself (known as the Hidden Inventory Arc) is also one of great significance in Jujutsu Kaisen’s narrative, as it will not only provide insight into the adolescence of the manga’s most prominent character but will also depict his complex relationship with the main antagonist, Suguru Geto, one who was once his closest ally.

Another reason why this arc is so meaningful is how it draws poignant parallels to Sensui, a character from Yu Yu Hakusho – a manga written by the esteemed Hunter x Hunter author Yoshiro Togashi. The manner in which Sensui witnessed a ghastly incident that exposed the abhorrent nature of human beings (and led him to develop a radical worldview based on a rigid binary of right and wrong) bears a striking resemblance to Suguru Geto’s past and the thematic explorations lying at the heart of this upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen arc.

Sensui’s original incident was also inspired by American director Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now movie, which was based on the author Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. The way the movie and the book explored the darkness of the human psyche influenced Sensui’s psychological exploration and eventual breakdown after the incident (not to mention he was actually watching the movie at one point in the Yu Yu Hakusho manga).

Yu Yu Hakusho is directly mentioned in one Jujutsu Kaisen chapter as well, and the author is very blatant about being a Togashi fan.

Jujutsu Kaisen tells the story of Jujutsu sorcerers who wage war against the ghastly beings known as Curses, abominations born out of negative emotions emanating from the human psyche.

Naturally, the nature of these Curses poses an insurmountable challenge to sorcerers, as their complete eradication from existence (or in other words, the eradication of human negative emotions) is a seemingly impossible feat. The psychological exploration of this conundrum from Gojo and Geto’s perspective sets the stage for the upcoming arc.
