JoJo’s All-Star Battle R: How To Play Mista

0

Mista Guido is a master marksman, and a relentless rushdown and zoner hybird in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R. Mastering his unique and tricky playstyle with his Stand Sex Pistols is the key to victory. Although he’s a Stand user, Mista’s Sex Pistols Stand is automatically always turned on while in the game. Playing him allows you to change the trajectory of your shots through ricochets. Add a Sex Pistol Stand to your loaded bullets to increase damage and hits.

His gunplay is versatile on both the ground and in the air. Plus, he can continue his keep-away gameplay by building damage from his several OTG (on the ground) hits. Both of his supers allow him to recover his bullets and reset his Sex Pistol Stands, while he does not even require a lot of meter due to his zoning.

Bullets & Sex Pistols

Above his Heart Heat gauge is a counter for both Mista’s 6 bullets and his 6 Sex Pistol Stands he can interact with. No matter how they are used, Sex Pistols helps Mista with the tracking of his shots. But Mista can choose to either load a Stand into his gun, or he can place Sex Pistols on the field, in order to give himself access to “Pass, pass, pass” and let Sex Pistols do the aiming for him through precise ricochets.

The placement of Sex Pistols in particular can make Mista’s zoning deadly due to how much spatial control he has potential for, even in the air.

Time To Get To Work!

5s or (neutral style button) makes Mista load a Sex Pistol into his next bullet. This increases your tracking and damage, but the move can’t be done while moving, attacking, or blocking. This can be one of your main damage-dealing buffs to use. The added hits that Sex Pistols cause will leave the enemy staggered long enough for you to get some rush-down combos in up close.

Places, Everyone

From 236S (forward quarter circle style button) or 214s (backwards quarter circle style button) Mista can place and position a Sex Pistol Stand. You can cancel into this by normal attacking, and you can place the Stands into the air. Backwards or forwards and the style in the air work as well.

You can even unleash the loaded Sex Pistols on the bullet by stopping the momentum of the shot by pressing the style button again, so the Sex Pistols are deployed at the location of where the bullet was when the button was pressed.

Get Back Here!

22S (or double down style button) resets the position of all your Sex Pistols Stands you may have placed around the stage. You can cancel into this move from a normal. You will be using this move a lot to readjust your game plan with Mista.

Special Moves

Mista’s special moves work around his resources and allow him to cancel into shots from his melee attacks. Versatility and strategy come about from however you wish to change the properties of your bullet tracking, damage, and amount of hits by combining the power of Sex Pistols to ensure you’re hitting your target. The pressure you can create in the air makes it hard to even get close to Mista.

Gonna Light You Up!

236 (or forward quarter circle) have Mista fire his revolver upwards, straight, or downwards, depending on the version used. You can use this move in the air, and the 6th bullet will cause a hard knockdown. The light version going upwards can curve towards grounded opponents when Sex Pistols are loaded.

The medium version is you main combo tool you will zone opponents with and can also hit OTG. The heavy version hits downward and OTG as well. Going into the air to shoot can solve the problem of the enemy jumping over your bullets.

I’ll Ask The Damn Questions!

623 (or forward dragon punch input) causes Mista to perform a flying knee kick to the gut. You can cancel into this from any grounded version of “Gonna light you up!”. The light and medium variation cause a soft knockdown. Damage increases depending on the version used, but the medium and heavy variation can not be Flash Canceled.

Your medium and heavy variations also have invulnerability, and the heavy version will crumple (or cause the opponent to start falling down) on hit. This special is your main tool for zoning and rush-down combinations.

Pass, Pass, Pass!

214 (or backwards quarter circle) causes Mista to move towards deployed Sex Pistols, so his Stand can help him accurately hit his target through ricochets. Using it in the Air is OK and makes his zoning even tougher for people to deal with. The light version allows you to save some Sex Pistols on the stage because you only pass the bullet shot to the nearest Sex Pistol available.

The medium version has Mista pass his bullet from the first deployed Stand to the last one. The heavy version shoots the last deployed Stand and passes backwards in order of deployment. Mista is able to aggressively lock down the stage, space, and his opponent by keeping them guessing or just unable to successfully approach him due to all the shots tracking them down.

Reload

22M (or double down medium) makes Mista manually reload. You can cancel into any action after at least one bullet is reloaded, and you can also automatically reload by trying to fire once his ammunition is empty.

Quick Reload

22H (or double down heavy) uses 0.5 Heart Heat gauge to instantly reload all your bullets manually.

Super Moves

With infinite zoning at your disposable with either manual or automatic reloads, Mista has a lot of meter he can accumulate and save up to regain his bullets and reset his Sex Pistols through his supers. “Quick Reload” can use the meter to supply some trickier attacks to the opponent at the cost of half a bar of Heart Heat gauge.

What Mista seriously lacks in Defense options can be supplemented with keeping his opponents at bay through his level 1 and level 2 super. The gunner doesn’t have any specific defensive moves, so he is best when he is trapping the enemy in long combos or not letting them get even close to him.

Aim! Aim, You idiots!

Mista initiates his Heart Heat Attack

Sex Pistols split Mista’s shot into 10 pieces, which covers the entire screen with shrapnel. You can hit this from full screen away, and the super stops enemies from jumping over your bullets since it takes the whole screen. You won’t be able to track dodges. Your bullets are reloaded, and Sex Pistols are reset.

My True Resolve Starts Here!

Mista's Great Heat Attack cinematic concludes in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle R

Mista’s Great Heat Attack hits middle guards by him unloading all his bullets with a Sex Pistol each riding a shot. They hone in on the target. The cinematic has Mista reload and fire his revolver again with the Sex Pistols passing the bullet towards the target to deal even more damage. Your bullets are reloaded, and Sex Pistols are reset.

You can do lesser damage than usual with this super because the initial hit counts up the damage that each bullet does from the 6 shots fired, so landing the attack at more distant rages can potentially deal less damage.

Grade On The Tier List

Mista Guido shoots 10 pieces of shrapnel towards Ghiaccio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle

Mista hangs out with fellow Part 5 cast (like Diavolo, Bruno, and Narancia) on the roster in the S-tier class of character picks in the game. He is able to effectively play keep-away from the enemy and zone to his heart’s content. Meanwhile, if the enemy does take enough steps or dashes forward to get in range, Mista can back himself up with enough melee hits from his normals that will combo into gunshots.

Mista is able to set up his Sex Pistols on both the air and ground for ricochets, as well as shoot in the air, so aim accuracy with his special skills is still necessary regardless of how much his Stand helps with tracking. The more advanced parts of his kit need you to know positioning. While Mista’s overall potential is high, he can be intimidating to players for how high his skill ceiling actually is.

An example of this is the extensive combos Mista will require through the reloading of bullets into his revolver. The same goes for resetting his Sex Pistols. This can lead to some complex combo routing at higher levels. Also, walls can lead to him dropping his combos, so you mostly will want to stay away from fighting right up against them. Finally, the “Unlucky Number 4” passive skill is essential for Mista players to be aware of. If you are caught being hit with 4 bullets left in your ammunition, you will lose 0.1 Heart Heat gauge per hit.
