The fifth installment of the John Wick film franchise is in early development according to Lionsgate.
In their Q4 earnings call, Joe Drake the president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. Drake went on to explain that the franchise is going to branch out into other media including the “AAA video game space” as well as spin-off films and a television series. Here’s what he had to say (via Comicbook)
“We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there’s clear appetite by the audience…
And so, we’re building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic, will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
The very first John Wick spinoff – Ballerina – was confirmed to be premiering next summer. It stars Ana de Armas as yet another trained assassin, from the Russian crime family. The Peacock spinoff series The Continental was unveiled recently.
