Jamie Lee Curtis “humble” after ‘The Bear’ Emmy win

Jamie Lee Curtis has said she is incredibly “humble” after winning her first Emmy Award for The Bear.

The star took home the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series award at last night’s (September 8) Creative Arts Emmys for her role as Donna Berzatto in the FX show.

Speaking after her win, the star said: “I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I’ve been an actor since I was 19. I’m 65.”

She went on to joke: “I sold yoghurt that makes you shit for seven years, and I just never thought in my life that I would get to do work at this level, depth and complexity and intelligence.

“It’s just been the thrill of my creative life these last couple years that I get these opportunities, so I’m humble and incredibly grateful.”

The Emmy win also means she is now halfway to EGOT status – a small club of people who have won all four major arts awards – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Addressing the possibility of achieving the milestone, Curtis joked that she can’t “sing at all and I’ve never been on stage”, adding: “I’ve never done a play, and I don’t stay up that late.”

She added: “I’m just not sure I would do so well in the theatre, since you go to bed so late. But you know what, I never thought any of this was going to be possible in my life at all. And so the fact that this is happening is… I’m totally a late bloomer.”

Curtis won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress last year for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The Bear scored 23 nominations at this year’s Emmys, the second-most behind FX’s Shōgun, with the Primetime Emmys ceremony set to take place this weekend (September 15).

Meanwhile, next year Curtis will return for Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan.

The film will follow mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman years later, with the latter now having “a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter”.

“As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” the synopsis adds.

Curtis and Lohan have also confirmed that fans will hear new music from in-movie band Pink Slip in the sequel.
