James Gunn Confirms Future DC Games Will Connect To DCEU

James Gunn intends to create an interconnected DC universe.

James Gunn, co-chairman of DC Studios, has confirmed that future DC games will be part of the DC Extended Universe, which will include films, animations, and comic books. He claimed that DC has no intention to keep its games outside the Extended Universe.

The first precise declaration of the studio’s plans to publish games connected to the cinematic universe came from the director’s Twitter account, saying: “the DCEU will be connected across film and TV (and animation).” When a fan asked further if there are plans for games to be connected to the DCEU too, James Gunn replied with a clear “yes”. It was well known that James Gunn had big plans for the DCEU to differentiate it with live-action films and animations. It would appear that video games are now confirmed to be a part of the DCEU’s enlargement.

This means that DC-based video games will take place in the same timeline and universe as television shows and films. James Gunn’s plans for an interconnected DCEU are not a surprise, as Warner Bros. Discovery Head, David Zaslav, expressed his excitement for the new structure of the DCEU led by James Gunn and Peter Safran (thanks Deadline). He also noted their plans to “build a bible for a cohesive DC universe.”

Taking over DC Studios’ film and TV division along with Peter Safran back in September, James Gunn is in charge of the company’s plans, excluding the comic books. Gunn was replying to threads including questions about his plans for the DCEU over the last weekend. When asked whether there are any plans to give more DC character shows, James Gunn revealed his intention to create an interconnected universe.

It is worth noting that the next DC-based game, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League won’t be affected by the decision, as it takes place in the Arkhamverse. A Wonder Woman game is also in development by Monolith Studios.
