Alien: Romulus may not be arriving until later this summer, but we’re still looking forward to screaming in space again. Director Fede Álvarez and his co-writer, Rodo Sayague, are taking the franchise back to its horror roots from Ridley Scott’s Alien while also embracing the action of James Cameron’s Aliens. During a new interview with Total Film, Álvarez and Sayague recalled their consultation with Cameron was unexpectedly filled with small details including the size of the ship’s engines in the film.
“At the end of the phone call, [Cameron] thanked us for letting him brainstorm with us, which I found hilarious,” related Álvarez. “I was like, ‘You don’t have to thank us; it’s the best day ever for us!'”
Total Film also debuted a new image of Alien: Romulus’ main character, Rain Carradine, as played by Cailee Spaeny.
Fandango also has a new image from Alien: Romulus featuring Rain and one of her companions who will encounter the Xenomorphs during the film. And chances are very good that few, if any of them, will live to tell the tale.
The rest of the cast includes David Jonsson as Andy, Archie Renaux as Tyler, and Isabela Merced as Kay, as well as Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu in undisclosed roles.
Alien: Romulus will hit theaters on August 16.
