ITV News viewers react in disbelief as studio setting ousted as ‘fake’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

ITV News viewers reacted in shock on Thursday (May 25) after it was revealed the programme’s studio setting isn’t all as it seems.

From home the broadcast appears to be presented from lavish surroundings with bright lights and laminate flooring in front of a newsroom that’s a hive of activity.

However, a Twitter user has put paid to that idea by sharing contrasting images of illusion and reality.

One photo showed a typical television view of the studio, featuring presenter Mary Nightingale and her former co-host Mark Austin sat at their huge desk.

A second, however, sees the pair sat at the same desk – with nothing else but greenscreen in sight.

It prompted one shocked fan to reply: “STOP IT WHAT?! I thought it was a full-on set not a green screen.”

Similarly, another exclaimed: “No stop are you joking??? Pls tell me you are seriously joking????”

A disappointed third commented: “Seeing the green screens always depresses me, and I feel sad for the talent having to work in them.”

And a fourth pointed out: “Wow! Mind blown. Also: no cleaning required.”

ITV isn’t the only major broadcaster to use a greenscreen, however, as BBC viewers discovered by accident in 2020.

At the time Dan Walker and Sam Quek were presenting Olympic Breakfast, bringing the latest coverage of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The instalment saw diver Tom Daley win a bronze medal for his solo dive in the men’s platform final. They also showed coverage of the men’s track race. However, when they cut back to the BBC studio, the broadcaster seemed to suffer a glitch as viewers were able to see the greenscreen behind the presenters, instead of the background of Tokyo.

During the segment, Dan and Sam welcomed British racing driver Chris Hoy to the show to discuss the latest sports coverage.

However, as their guest was taking his seat, the background changed, and viewers were able to see the greenscreen behind them.
