Is it time to reset Haz’s character on ‘Neighbours’?

‘Neighbours’ fans received a shock yesterday when Haz (Shiv Palekar) was rushed to hospital and slipped into a coma.

Last Thursday’s episode saw Haz hit by Mackenzie’s (Georgie Stone) car as he gave chase to Wade (Stephen Phillips) as part of a police sting spearheaded by Andrew (Lloyd Will). Viewers were quick to point out that Haz seemingly just rolled over the car bonnet but we speculated that the character could die from his injuries.

The aftermath was revealed in Monday’s episode where Haz slipped into a coma but his chances of recovery seemed to improve. As he lies in a hospital bed, his friends have gathered around him and Mackenzie and Holly (Lucinda Armstrong Hall) have joined forces to try and find Haz’s family.

With Haz in a coma, and looking likely to pull through, we have to ask if now would be a good time for the character to have a total reset?

Haz has turned into a completely different person

The nice guy that we met when ‘Neighbours’ returned to our screen has been replaced by someone with a shady past and plenty of secrets. He feels like a totally different character doesn’t he? After months of pining over Mackenzie, Haz seemingly became someone completely different once they got together. His heart-wrenching storyline with Trevor was put on the back burner and all of a sudden viewers discovered that Haz had a hacking background that involved ruining people’s lives.

We want ‘Mr Nice Guy’ Haz back

With Wade in police custody and Haz almost losing his life, we hope the writers will take the character back to his nice guy roots. Honestly, we’ve struggled to believe that he’d be capable of the things that have been revealed and we much preferred Haz when he was just the neighbourhood nice guy. His storyline with Trevor has been a highlight of the revival and we want his romance with Mack to stand a chance of actually going the distance. It’s time to put the hacking and shady past behind him.

Will we get the Haz we want?

This remains up in the air as previews for the upcoming episodes show that Haz’s sister arrives in Erinsborough – and she seems like a tough cookie. This will inevitably mean that the huge question mark we have over Haz’s family is about to be answered but will we like what we find out? Our guess is there are more revelations coming about Haz but honestly, we’d rather he just got on with running Harold’s and reverted back to that nice guy we met when the show returned last year.

‘Neighbours’ airs Monday to Thursday on Amazon Freevee.
