I the Inquisitor

I, the Inquisitor, based on a series of gloomy novels, will see you acting as a Christian enforcer in a world where Jesus threw forgiveness to the wind.

Yes, we know, it seems absurd that anyone would disregard the whole “forgiveness” part of the New Testament and just use Jesus’s name to justify their bigotry and hatred. But, far fetched as that sounds, murder, persecution and religious venom are massive parts of I, the Inqusitor’s church.

Penned by author Jacek Piekara, the books I, the Inquisitor draws from see Jesus Christ stepping off the cross and conquering the world. He subsequently disappears, but the church he leaves behind makes Spanish Inquisition look moderate. As Inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin, protagonist of the books, you’re charged with rooting out “sin” while dealing with an actual ancient evil.

It’s being developed by The Dust and will be a story-driven adventure with some real moral quandaries though, from what we hear, Mordimer Madderdin is a bastard through and through anyway. Being set in the 1500s it will, apparently, sport a similar aesthetic to A Plague Tale: Innocence and The Sinking City.

We don’t know whether any Lovecraftian nasties will be putting in an appearance but I, the Inquisitor will see you roaming places that, like The Sinking City, are falling apart at the seams. The trailer shows off a little combat but it’s the detective work that has us intrigued, which could see you uncovering activities that are only criminal because they offend the church. And, horrifically enough, you’ll be able to torture your “suspects”.

I, the Inquisitor will arrive on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It doesn’t have a release date as yet but you can wishlist it on Steam here.
