How to use the Wing Device to fly in Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has numerous Zonai Devices, one of which is the Wing Device. The Wing Device is a flat bird-shaped vessel that can be used to soar through the skies. If you have just finished climbing to the Snow Mountain Shrine and have discovered your first Wing Device, fear not; we’ll help you know how to fly it.

Note: Before you take off with the Wing Device, you’ll want to know how to save and load in Tears of the Kingdom. You can never be too careful.

Tears of the Kingdom: How to use the Wing Device

The first step of knowing how to use a Wing Device is to know how to get it in the air. When you first come across a Wing Device at Great Sky Island, it will likely be docked near a slanted runway. To get a Wing Device airborne, you need to use Ultrahand and place it on one of the runway canals. You’ll know you’ve done it right if the Wing Device starts sliding down.

Later in the game, you’ll find Wing Devices or pull a Wing Device from your inventory, all of which won’t have a convenient runway near it. If you find yourself in a scenario where a Wing Device doesn’t have an easy way to get into the air, I recommend attaching a Fan Device to the Wing Device. When you are ready, hit the fan (use a Zonai Charge if you need to) and you’ll get the boost you need to get your Wing Device in the air.

Now that you know how to get the Wing Device airborne, you need to know how to fly it. The Wing Device operates solely on physics. This means that if you stand in the front, the Wing Device will pick up speed and dive down, if you stand in the back, the Wing Device will slow down and drift in the air, if you stand on the left, it will pitch left, if you stand on the right (you guessed it), it will pitch right.

From my experience, I have had success flying the Wing Device by standing in the middle. If you ever need to turn, just move slightly to the left or right. If you need to pick up speed or slow down, go to the front or back and then return to the center. After a bit of practice, you’ll master flight with a Wing Device.
