When you first start your adventure, you’ll immediately gain access to the recipes for crafting most of your basic survival tools. Your primary survival tools consist of a sickle, axe, hammer, fishing rod, and bug catcher. You’ll also eventually unlock a few other tools that mainly just help with how you navigate the world.

While synthesizing your primary tools, you’ll have the option to venture down a variety of material loop paths. The available loops typically include boosts to the quality of the tool, trait slots, quantity of materials gathered, and the tool gathering level. The latter is what you want to focus on in order to gain access to more materials in the wild, so make sure to prioritize filling out the Effect 1 material loops first.

For the base survival tools, as you fill out the Effect 1 loops, the tool will be upgraded with the following hierarchy: Master, Capable, and Proper. The order of these feels like it is backward, but in this list, Proper is the highest level you can achieve with the base tools. Leveling your tools up to this point will unlock the second level of materials available when gathering in the wild.

Using Creaminea to synthesize Ravage Hammer

After progressing through about half of the story, you’ll notice that your basic survival tools just aren’t cutting it anymore. In order to gain access to the remaining materials, as well as gather the highest quality versions of them, you’ll need to synthesize advanced tools. Each of the advanced tool recipes can be unlocked by completing the Recipe material loop when synthesizing the basic tools.

Although this sounds straightforward, you won’t be able to do this right away. This is because you’ll need to gain access to the more advanced metals like Creaminea and Goldoterion first. To craft Creaminea, you’ll need to first unlock the recipe from the skill tree. After doing so, you can unlock Goldoterion by completing the Recipe loop while synthesizing Creaminea.

Once you have the necessary metals and have begun crafting your new tools, you’ll once again have to consider which material loops to fill out with the limited ingredients you can add. The same kinds of loops that were available with the basic tools are present again, though this time, you’ll be able to level up Effect 1 even further. This will also mean that there are more Effect 1 material loops to be filled out, so it is best to prioritize those first. For these advanced tools, the hierarchy is as follows: Master, Capable, Proper, Expert, and Masterful. Once you’ve unlocked Masterful with each tool, as well as the Level 3 Gathering and Staff upgrades in the skill tree, you’ll be able to gather every material available in the game.
