How to unlock Ember Valley and Starlight Strand

Just like the first game, a huge part of Slime Rancher 2 is exploring the world. On first inspection, the world of this game might seem quite small, but don’t be deceived, this is just one island of several you can explore. Rainbow Fields is a brilliant starting location that will let you set up a great beginner’s farm, but if you want to sink your teeth into the advanced stuff, you’ll need to branch out further.

From the first island, you have two options of where to go next. The volcanic Ember Valley, or mysterious Starlight Strand. Either way, you’re going to have to do a bit of legwork to get there so we’ll tell you where to go and what you have to do.

How to get to Ember Valley – Slime Rancher 2

As you venture through the main areas of Rainbow Fields you’ll likely come across a strange white pillar with gold trimmings on top. This is the portal to Ember Valley, but you need to activate it first. To do that you need to find the Pink Gordo slime on the north edge of the island. To pop these Gordo slimes you need to feed them as much as possible and their favourite foods make them full quicker. Unfortunately, the pink slime doesn’t have a favourite food, so just shovel 32 of any food into its mouth.

Once it bursts you’ll see that it was sitting on a geyser. Stand on the geyser and, when it shoots, you’ll be pushed up onto the surrounding cliffs. From there, follow the path ahead until you reach a weird device. Activate it and the pillars will fall, revealing the portal to Ember Valley.

How to get to Starlight Strand – Slime Rancher 2

Slightly closer to your farm in Rainbow Fields – near where you get the first map data point – there is a narrow path that goes up a large hill. At the top is a Cotton Gordo slime which blocks the path to Starlight Strand. These slimes only like veggies, but they do have a favourite food – Water Lettuce. Shooting 16 of them (or 32 of any other veggie) should be enough to burst it and reveal a path that leads to both the Starlight Strand portal and the switch to activate it.

From there you’ve got two new places to explore and brand new slimes to farm.
