How to spot a Walkout while opening FUT packs

If you have spent valuable coins or FIFA Points on a player pack in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), you naturally hope for the best possible result: a player with a high rating. As in past editions, there is a method in FIFA 23 to recognize a so-called Walkout early on based on the pack animations. This raises the tension when you open up packs to the next level and can provide some additional spice to the popular game mode.

FIFA 23: What is a Walkout?

If you get a player with an overall rating (OVR) of 86 points or higher, that’s called a Walkout – the player appears and walks off the screen out of your sight, hence the name. For special cards from any FUT promo, the minimum rating limit for a Walkout is 84 points.

FIFA 23: Spotting a walkout

The clearest indication of a Walkout are fireworks directly above the player’s rating before their identity fully materializes. In FIFA 23, the pack animations are faster than in its predecessors, so you only have a few precious seconds to look for this sign before the player is fully revealed.

In addition, the background darkens for a few moments and the glowing spotlights on the sides of the card align upwards.

However, those last two signs also appear on a so-called Board – these are cards whose rating is between 83 and 85. In this case, however, the fireworks do not appear directly above the rating, but only on the sides of the screen. Boards are no doubt useful, but they are not quite Walkouts – so the similar clues are likely to cause a moment or two of frustration and disappointment over the coming FIFA 23 season.

Florian Wirtz in the screenshot above just misses out on being a Board with his 82 OVR, so his opening animation showed none of the described clues. You can still see that the spotlights are not raised upwards, for example.

Train your eyes to look out for the described omens as you open FUT packs for some additional fun and early celebrations.
