Alex is one of the 12 different characters you can date and later marry in the relaxing farming game of Stardew Valley. He is often seen outside his grandparent’s house, lamenting on his life as a popular high school gridball star.

Who Is Alex?

Alex is one of the twelve different characters that are eligible for marriage in Stardew Valley. He lives with his grandparents, George and Evelyn, and is often seen lifting weights or throwing around a gridball.

How To Start Your Relationship With Alex

In order to begin your relationship with Alex, you will want to do a few things every week. Make sure to talk to him every day, and give him 2 gifts every week. If you do this, you will slowly build up hearts with Alex, and you will be able to complete each Heart Event as you reach the needed amount.

You will also want to give him an additional gift on the day of his birthday, which is Summer 16. This will have an increased effect on your relationship and will help to build up your hearts even faster. Make sure to give him a gift that he either loves or likes, since giving him a gift he hates will decrease your friendship.

Gifts For Alex

You will want to make sure to give Alex 2 gifts every week that will make him happy.

Gifts Alex Loves:

  • Complete Breakfast
  • Salmon Dinner
  • Golden Pumpkin
  • Magic Rock Candy
  • Pearl
  • Prismatic Shard
  • Rabbit’s Foot

Gifts Alex Hates:

  • Salmonberry
  • Wild Horseradish
  • Holly
  • Quartz

These gifts will decrease your friendship with Alex, so you will want to avoid them at all costs.

Alex’s Heart Events

Alex will have a few different Heart Events that you can participate in when you reach the required amount of hearts. These events will further your relationship with him, and some of the options you choose can have a negative or positive effect. Alex has 7 different events that you can complete in the game.

Alex’s Two Hearts Event

To trigger this event, you will want to head to the beach on any sunny summer day. Alex will be there, and he will tell you about his dreams to become a gridball player. You can respond to this with two different options:

Alex’s Four Hearts Event

This event will occur when you go to town anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. You’ll find Alex standing next to the dog house, talking to his dog Dusty. He will ask if you heard anything, to which you can reply:

He will then tell you about his past and why his parents are no longer around. You’ll finish the conversation with Alex giving his dog a steak.

Alex’s Five Hearts Event

You can trigger this event by entering Alex’s house at any point when he is there. You’ll find him in his bedroom, and he will talk about how he is afraid to read any of the books in his room. You can reply with:

He then offers to have dinner in the future where you can discuss philosophy.

Alex’s Six Hearts Event

You will also want to enter Alex’s house whenever he is there to trigger this event. He will be in his room lifting weights, and he will apologize to you for being rude in the past and bragging about his abilities.

Alex’s Eight Hearts Event

Head to the beach on a sunny day to begin this event. Alex will be there, crying, and he will tell you about his mother. He will show you her old music box that he kept. He will ask you what you are thinking, and you can say:

Alex’s Ten Hearts Event

To trigger this event, Alex will send you a letter in the mail asking you to meet him at the Stardrop Saloon. You will want to go anytime between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. When you arrive, you will both be seated for a meal, and Alex will mention he wants to tell you something. He will express that he has feelings for you, which you can reply:

I’m sorry… I don’t feel that way about you.

In order to continue the romantic relationship, you will want to choose the first option. You will both chat a bit more and finish your meal.

Alex’s Fourteen Hearts Event

To start this event, you will first need to be married to Alex. Then, leave your house anytime between 6 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. on any day except Sunday. Make sure to have at least 5,000 g in your pocket, because Alex will arrive asking for some money. You can either agree to it or not. If you do, he will ask you to stop by the Stardrop Saloon on Sunday to see what his secret project is.

When Sunday arrives, head to the Stardrop Saloon at any time, and you’ll find Alex with a group of others. He will mention that he made a place where the guys can hang out and watch the Sunday game after Gus agreed to allow him to use the back room. They will all be grateful for Alex’s project.

How To Propose To Alex

In order to propose and get married to Alex, you will need to find a specific item beforehand. This item will be the Mermaid’s Pendant, which you can find near the tidal pools at the beach. First, though, you will receive a letter in the mail from Mayor Lewis when you reach 10 hearts with Alex that tells you about the Mermaid’s Pendant. You will then be able to search out the item.

You will need to repair the bridge that requires 300 wood. Once you do this, you will find the Old Mariner located here; he will sell the Mermaid’s Pendant to you for 5,000 g. Once you purchase this, you will also need to make sure you have upgraded your house at least once before proposing. Then, you can approach Alex whenever you prefer and present the Mermaid’s Pendant to him.
