The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom pays homage to previous games in the series in ways large and small. You’ll find familiar enemies, items, and other nods to neat moments from Hyrule’s history. Some of the references to other games can get fairly creative. Here is our guide explaining how to get the Tunic of Awakening in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a Game Boy game that eventually made it to other hardware, including the Switch in remade form. In that game, Link visited an island and had some memorable adventures, which the Awakening alludes to.
To find the Tunic of Awakening, you need to head to the Tabantha Frontier region, located south from Rito Village. In the Tabantha Frontier, there is a location known as Ancient Columns, which is the precise area you need to visit. See its location on the map below.

The Ancient Columns area is dangerous, because a large Gleeok patrols along its south end. Try to approach from the north, which allows you access to the ruins with little in the way of enemy resistance. I sailed in from that direction and scaled the steep cliffs without encountering a single foe, in fact.
Once you are in the ruins, you need to climb to the top of one of the pillars facing toward a conspicuous gray square of ground. When you do, setting foot on will activate a circular switch, which opens the way to the nearby Ancient Columns Cave.

Drift down to that opening and enter it to access a small cave. The Tunic of Awakening waits at the far end of that chamber, in an unguarded treasure chest. Before you leave the cave, don’t forget to head left from the chamber with the chest to find an opening. Drop through it to find the cave’s frog so you can acquire another Bubbul Gem. Then you’re ready to depart.
As a side note, you can apparently acquire the whole Awakening set if you have the version of the Link amiibo that corresponds to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. However, many players may not have that item and will need to gather the pieces on their own.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
