In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, you’ll have to get your hands on Sunstone to advance to a new ingot type.
However, Sunstone may seem impossible to get a hold of. To prevent you looking all over Dwarrodelf for nothing, heed this guide.
Where you’ll find Sunstone in Return to Moria
Sunstone, as read in its description, can be found in deep and dark places in the Desolation. This refers to the final region in Dwarrodelf, where you encounter the Dragon again. The Desolation isn’t just a carcass of a once-great Dwarven City, as it has its own procedurally generated mining passages and caverns.
In one of these caverns, you’ll find a ravine with two planks thrown on top of it. You may remember this from the Lower Deeps. Down in that crack (be careful of the drop), you’ll find rare and precious ores and resources, including Sunstone. So carefully descend, using platforms or ladders, and be sure to bring resources to build a Stone Hearth and a Mapstone, for easy travel.
When down in such places, be very careful. You won’t be alone. Make sure every time you descend into such places, that you’re ready to run back to your hearth and Map Stone. Bringing down food, good weapons and armor, and even a healing brew is advised. Or you could simply accept that you’ll die over and over again to not waste such healing items.

Obtaining Sunstone in Return to Moria
Once in the Dark Mineshaft of Dwarrodelf, you can start mining for Sunstone. The only ore veins you’ll find in the Dark Mineshaft are labelled ‘precious gems’. These can host a range of resources, including Sunstone. So keep exploring the Dark Mineshaft and mine away at all the precious gems you see, and you’ll stack up of Sunstone in no time.
Alongside the veins, you’ll also find deposits of precious gems. They host an even bigger range of resources, but are quicker to mine, will replenish, and reward you with more Sunstone if that’s the precious gem that’s inside. I think that farming these plentiful deposits is a quicker way of getting Sunstone than digging through the veins.
I hope this has proven useful, fellow Dwarf, and that you’ll be up to your bushy eyebrows in the stuff in no time.
