To get the most out of Slime Rancher 2’s Slime Science, you’ll need to explore every inch of Rainbow Island to find several different crafting items. Some of these items, like the Deep Brine, can be found just outside the Conservatory. But sooner than later, you’ll have to unlock the remaining islands to find the rest, including the Perfect Snowflakes only found in the secretive Powderfall Bluffs.

Needed Upgrades

Like with every crafting resource, Slime Rancher 2 requires you to first use your Slime Science in the Fabricator under your home to build the Resource Harvester. These Snowflakes do not fall from the sky, as you will soon see, and regardless you first need this attachment to suck them up with your vacuum. While you’re in the Fabricator, work towards crafting your Jetpack as well as upgrading it, you will need it to get to Powderfall Bluffs as well as a few of the Snowflakes locations.

Notable Locations

To start, there’s a geyser of Perfect Snowflakes up and to the left of your starting position in the Bluff. As you can see, the Perfect Snowflakes rise out of a crack in the ground, just like other Resources such as Primordial Oil. This location will be one of the quickest to get to, just fly with the Jetpack in the correct direction, and you’ll likely see it from the air.

You’ll still need your Jetpack, but this location will be trickier. This island in the upper left is separate from the rest, so if you misread your Jetpack fly, you may fall into the icy water and be forced back to the Conservatory. This is why the upgrade is recommended, so that you’ll be far less likely to miss the jump and land on the island easily. The geyser of Perfect Snowflakes will be around a few trees, sharing habitat space with a few Cotton Slimes.

There’s a Perfect Snowflake geyser in practically the dead center of the map, but while that makes it easy to remember, you’ll notice in the images that it doesn’t seem the easiest to collect. During certain hours, there are Auroral Anomalies that will turn solid and allow you to walk on them. If you try to interact with these Anomalies when they are not active, you will just phase through them, plummeting to whatever lies below. The times you’ll want to watch out for are the late evening and early morning, roughly just around 19:00 and only a few moments are 5:00 according to the in-game clock. If it’s midnight, you’ll have plenty of time, but if it’s the twilight hours, you will want to hurry along.

On the right-hand side of the map, you’ll see a long network of caves. Once you find the northern entrance to these caves, you’ll find a good handful of Saber Slimes and various species of chicken. When it comes to Resource gathering, the caves are best utilized as a spot to collect Slime Fossils, especially during the Aurora Anomaly. That said, there are a few Perfect Snowflake geysers, such as this one in the middle of the structure. It’ll be across from a chicken nest.

While in the cave, look for an exit at the top, near a sign warning you of Feral Slimes. Make it past these Feral Slimes, however, you see fit to handle them, continue to climb a short distance out and you’ll find another Perfect Snowflake geyser at the top of the cave system.

Using Perfect Snowflakes

Now that you have a bunch of Perfect Snowflakes, the next question is what to do with all of them. If you were diligent while searching the Powderfall Bluffs, you also came across a couple of Treasure Pods. If you did not, remember that Treasure Pods will usually be hidden on top of mountains or tucked away in crags just near water or lava. The Treasure Pods for the Powderfall Bluffs contain many decoration blueprints to spruce up your ranch with wintery items. These will include snowy-covered bushes and trees. You’ll craft these items with Perfect Snowflakes, along with Saber Plorts and a few other Resources you may have already collected plenty of.

Out of all the new blueprints, the one with more practical uses is the Snowball Machine. There are piles of Snowballs in the Powderfall Bluffs that if sucked into your vacuum, can be hurled back to start Snowball fights. If you craft the Snowball Machine, you can always start your journey with a slot full of Snowballs. All you’ll need after finding the blueprint is:

  • 2,000 Newbucks
  • 20 Saber Plorts
  • 10 Perfect Snowflakes
  • 1 Strange Diamond

While Snowball fights with your Slimes may not entertain all players, it should be noted that Snowballs can also be used as weapons against The Tarr, and will stun some Feral Slimes and even chickens. The Snowball Machine is both fun and practical, and worth finding the 10 Snowflakes for.
