Explosive Powder is one of the most evasive end-game resources in Raft, and that’s a huge issue since you’ll need at least a few to start capturing livestock or setting off elaborate firework displays, so how do you build up your stores of this rare resource?
If you want to get Explosive Powder, you’ll first have to get Explosive Goo, and thankfully, it can be found pretty easily in low quantities. However, as with all things in Raft, you’ll need to wait for the perfect opportunity to farm this fiery substance. Here’s how you can get Explosive Goo and refine it into Explosive Powder.
The main source of Explosive Powder is through finding and refining Explosive Goo. You can get this gelatinous substance from killing the exploding puffer fish scattered around larger islands.
These rude, caustic fish are a nice nod to the underwater horrors of Subnautica, and if you’ve played Raft for a while, you’ve undoubtedly come across your fair share of them. They tend to populate the deeper waters a bit further out from shore, and if you get too close, they’ll swim up close before exploding in your face.
Killing these overly-aggressive fish is harder than it sounds since you’ll have to hit them multiple times before they have a chance to explode. You can manage it with either a spear or a bow, but bows are by far the more reliable option. Don’t forget to either kill or distract the shark beforehand so that you don’t have to worry about it while you focus on the puffer fish.
If you have access to batteries, there’s a small chance to find Explosive Powder with the Metal Detector.
Once you successfully kill an exploding puffer fish, it’ll flip over in the water, and you can harvest it for one or two Explosive Goo. That’s obviously not that much goo to work with, and each island will only spawn a limited number of these fish, so take every chance you get to try to hunt these swimming bombs.
Once you have a handful of Explosive Goo, you’ll need a Smelter to turn it into a substance you can use. If you’ve never used the Smelter before, it can be used to dry or smelt various items in the game.
To do so, simply look at the Smelter with some Planks in hand to add fuel to the machine and then interact with the bowl on top with the item you want to smelt in hand. In this case, you can put Explosive Goo in the top bowl, and after a few moments, it’ll turn into Explosive Powder.
