How to get Ancient Blade in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom differs from some games by allowing you to assemble your own weapons from various components. You can generate all sorts of combinations, if you find the right pieces. Here is our guide telling you how to get Ancient Blade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – how to get Ancient Blade

The Ancient Blade is no longer a weapon, the way its name suggests. It is a part of one. Essentially, it functions much like a monster horn. You can attach it to something that’s already powerful to further increase its power. However, it is extremely fragile. Attached to an arrow, it is a single-use item.

To get the Ancient Blade, find it in a treasure chest or acquire it from a Construct late in the campaign. There are at least two locations where you can find a chest with the precious item.

The first chest is in Gorko Cave, in the Eldin Canyon region. The best time to visit this cave is after you beat the Fire Temple boss. We walk you through finding the cave in our guide on how to complete the Simmerstone Springs side quest.

Once you find the cave, start through it and you will see a chest sitting on a high ledge. It rests on the opposite side of a lava pool (see the above image). Hop onto the wall to the left and climb around to the chest to open it. You receive an Ancient Blade.

A second chest is accessible by way of the well at Highland Stable. Drop down the well and smash through a rock wall. You’ll encounter a number of tough enemies. Avoid them or defeat them on your way to the exit. About halfway through the cave, veer left and drop into a lower area with several crates. They are plainly visible from the main ledge. There is also a chest in that area, harder to see. Open it for an Ancient Blade.

If you prefer, you can also enter this area by way of the beach. Enter through the connected Komo Shoreline Cave. The above screenshot shows a map of that entry point.

Additionally, you can purchase the item from a Construct for 50 Zonaite. It’s available at the Spirit Temple in the Depths. You must clear it first, however. That happens late in the game. The above screenshot provides a map showing the temple’s location.

Finally, you can use the 2017 amiibo of Link with a bow (from Breath of the Wild). Connect it once per day for an Ancient Blade each time.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for purchase from the Nintendo Store.
