The Sons Of The Forest is hands down one of the most mysterious and treacherous woodlands to exist. With dozens of hidden cannibal-infested caves, snowy peaks, and deep black sea to explore, it’s safe to say that every player has their work cut out when it comes to exploration.
While exploring, players will discover that several hidden and enclosed locations are locked due to some form of security threshold that requires one of the three available key cards in the game.
The Three Key Cards Explained
All these key cards are free to collect at any time; however, we highly advise that the player familiarize themselves with the basics of the game as some of these locations are going to require weapons and consumables to successfully obtain the key cards.
Maintenance Keycard
This keycard is printed in the name of “Carl Planter” and is located on the map above as the maintenance keycard. This keycard will require the shovel as it requires digging.
Guest Keycard
The guest keycard is printed in the name of “Arnold Crand.” Little information is given or known about this mysterious man, nonetheless, his keycard proves to be priceless.
VIP Keycard
This VIP keycard is allocated to “Virginia Puffton.” For those who don’t know, she is the 4-legged female in the ballerina’s leotard that you can tame and have as a companion.
The Maintenance Keycard
The first important step to acquiring the maintenance keycard is to obtain the shovel. Without the shovel, you will not be able to get this keycard. This key card belongs to Carl Planter and can be located at the point highlighted in the map above.
Once you have successfully made it to the designated area where the keycard can be found, proceed to dig up the entrance to the bunker that is hidden underneath the dirt. This may take a while, but you will know when you have completely uncovered the entrance as the option to interact with the newly discovered bunker hatch will appear.
Once you have found and exposed the bunker entrance, proceed to navigate your way through the bunker until you reach the 3D printer in the office. Next to the 3D printer and laptop, you will find the maintenance keycard. Simply interact with the keycard to add it to your inventory.
Once you have collected the keycard, pitch a tent immediately after to save your progress and ensure you can respawn with the keycard.
The Guest Keycard
The guest keycard is the second on the list of keycards. Even though it doesn’t sound as useful as the other two key cards, it is still an invaluable asset that all players are going to need at some point or another.
This cave entrance is located several paces in front of a singular abandoned golf card. It‘s worth noting that this is also the cave that contains the 3D printer. Navigate as you would towards the 3D printer, but continue down the corridor until you reach the security door at the end.
This door requires the maintenance keycard, which is mentioned above. Once you have unlocked this door, use the maintenance keycard. Stay to the left and take the first left until you find yourself in the dining area with two staircases. Use one of the staircases to head upstairs, and you will find a club-like area.
The guest keycard can be located on top of the circular table next to several corpses. These are found on the right side of the room. Once you have collected the keycard, proceed to exit and start your journey for the last keycard. Don’t forget to save your progress via the tarp tent, as this can save you time and hassle if you die unexpectedly.
The VIP Keycard
Last but not least, out of the three keycards is the VIP keycard. This VIP keycard was designed and allocated to the friendly mutant that can be found in the game, Virginia Puffton.
The VIP keycard is located in another hidden cave. This one, much like the second keycard we previously explored, is near a golf cart with a corpse. Once you have successfully navigated your way to this location, proceed to enter the cave using its entrance.
Once you have found and entered the last cave using its entrance, proceed to navigate your way through until you reach the secured door. Unlock the door using the maintenance keycard and continue to navigate forwards.
The VIP keycard is located in front of the two monitors that are on an office desk. Once you have collected this keycard and the other two, you have successfully collected ALL available keycards.
Save your progress after collecting each keycard.
