Wandering around the spectral wastes of Pacific Drive sure feels extra terrifying when you don’t have a flashlight to illuminate those dark corners. Pacific Drive gives little to no light to you as you make your way through the game, so here’s how to get some.
I spent a long time thinking I had missed something as I repeatedly made my way out into the wilds of Pacific Drive at night. I was unable to see in even the most windowed rooms. In the end, I would park my faithful jalopy just outside the windows and doors to try to shed some light on the dark corners until I figured out how the lighting system worked.
So, the first portable, handheld, light you can get in Pacific Drive are the road flares. These can be grabbed all over the place and are absolutely essential to the game. Lighting one will keep certain anomalies at bay, and you can walk with one burning in your hand for a time. Make sure you always have one on your person.
Once you’re ready to upgrade your portable light in Pacific Drive, you can start with the Relightable Flare. This is simply a flare you can direct the light from and put back in your backpack. It’s a shoddy replacement for a flashlight, but it’s better than nothing. To unlock this, you must head to the Fabrication Station in the Garage and with at least 0.4 Stable Energy and 1 piece of Fabric, you can unlock the Relightable Flare.
If you’re looking for something with a little more gravitas than a Road Flare with a bit of tin, then the Flashlight is for you. I would recommend getting it as soon as possible. However, to unlock the Flashlight in Pacific Drive, you will have to head to the Fabrication Station with Unstable Enegery, which can only be found in the Mid Zone of Pacific Drive. This means you will have to upgrade yourself and your car significantly before unlocking the Flashlight in Pacific Drive.
