I haven’t been hit with the issue because I don’t play during peak hours which is when it seems to pop up a lot. The good news if you’re worried about the troubleshooting is that the Travis Rilea error is on the easier side to fix. You won’t have to go through hoops as you would for stuttering issues. So let’s resolve this problem to get you back to shooting bad guys.
The first thing you could do is to completely shut down the game. This means closing any instance running. If it’s still open in the background and not closing completely, just end task Modern Warfare 3. Once that’s done, head back into the game, and you should be able to join a match.

If that doesn’t work, the other method is to wait when fewer players are on. I live in Canada, so that would be during the daytime or late evening. It could be different for you, so check what the peak times are for your region. After you get that information, try logging in during those off hours.
Why does this error happen?
There’s no real reason, as there is no definitive fix for it either. But one could point to the server capacity being reached. When this happens, players who aren’t in the game or a match get queued up for one. So while you could wait, the methods above seem to get you in the game faster. Another theory is that there is something wrong with the servers on Activision’s end. So at the moment, we can’t pinpoint the main reason, but thankfully there are some fixes we can use.
