How To Find The Map Chamber As A Slytherin
Hogwarts Legacy by Avalanche Software is a whimsical journey through and around Hogwarts as a fifth-year student with dozens of new stories, characters, and locations that coincide with the Harry Potter lore.
One of those such locations is the Map Chamber located somewhere beneath Hogwarts Castle. Hogwarts Legacy provides slightly unique quests for each of the four houses to uncover the location of the Map Chamber. Below is a guide on how to access the Map Chamber as a Slytherin student.
Choose Slytherin As Your House
At the beginning of the game, make sure you choose Slytherin as your Hogwarts Legacy House, doing so will send you down the path of a house-specific quest line to discover the Map Chamber. You can do this via the Wizarding World Sorting Quiz, or simply choose Slytherin at the end of the sorting Hat Ceremony at the start of your journey in Hogwarts Legacy.
The Map Chamber in Hogwarts Legacy is a room beneath Hogwarts that holds the giant portraits of the keepers of ancient magic.
Slytherin Map Chamber Quest Line
Before you can obtain access to the Map Chamber as a Slytherin, you’ll have to complete a series of House specific tasks, as well as find the missing pages to the ancient magic book you found in the library with Sebastian Sallow. These tasks will take you just north of Hogsmede and well within the Forbidden Forest.
Hecat’s Assignment 2
The first task you must complete is Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2, which allows you to learn the spell disarming spell Expelliarmus and unlocks the Room of Requirement. This quest simply requires you to attend Professor Hecat’s Defence Against The Dark Arts class during the day. The Expelliarmus spell will disarm enemy wands or other weapons, allowing you to quickly follow up with a combo during combat.
Scrope’s Last Hope
Once Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2 quest is complete, and you have successfully mastered the spell Expelliarmus, you can now access the Slytherin-specific story mission, Scrope’s Last Hope. Scrope, a charming house elf, will lead you to the missing pages if you recover a ring that resides on his deceased former mistress’s corpse, Apollonia Black. Scrope tells you he learned from his now-deceased mistress of the missing pages and that Apollonia informed Scrope that she was also searching for the pages. Clues to the location of the missing pages, Scrope says, will be found within the Grotto of his former mistress.
Jackdaw’s Rest
At the end of Scrope’s Last Hope, after you read Apollonia Black’s journal, the ghost of Richard Jackdaw manifests before you and says sold the mistress’ ring and stole the pages a long time ago, in a misguided effort to woo Apollonia Black. Jackdaw insists that the pages of the book you are searching for are still on his remains, somewhere in the Forbidden Forest. Richard Jackdaw, unfortunately, met his own demise within a dungeon in the Forbidden Forest, and you are tasked to find his remains and the pages that lie with them.
Completion of Scrope’s quest will unlock Jackdaws Rest which will lead you into the Forbidden Forest to retrieve the lost ring and the stolen pages of the book you found in the restricted section of the library. This encounter will have more combat than usual, so make sure to have plenty of Wiggenweld Potion on hand and have equipped your new Expelliarmus spell.
Once located, you find Richard Jackdaw’s corpse and a room full of Sentries and a Pensive Protector to dispatch. When all enemies have fallen you will be prompted to activate pools of ancient magic that will shield you from the oncoming flood.
Entering The Map Chamber
Walking forward through the water will lead you to an immense room with portraits much larger than any you have encountered thus far. Congratulations, you have now unlocked access to the Map Camber as a Slytherin.
