After completing Glyndwr’s quests and rescuing his sister, Doireann, she’ll eventually give you The Ailing Arborheart side quest in Sacred Arbor. Like most quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2, The Ailing Arborheart requires you to do something but doesn’t give you any hints on how.
How to learn what gwyfencha is in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Unfortunately, having someone who speaks elvish won’t help you find out what gwyfencha is in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Also, if you’re like me and received The Ailing Arborheart quest during the true ending, then you can’t complete this quest because of the red fog. The common name for gwyfencha is Scalecinder, but it’s not an item you can get easily.
Where to find gwyfencha location in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To find gwyfencha, or Scalcinder, you need to complete the Put a Spring In Thy Step side quest. This is also how you unlock the Magick Archer Vocations, so you’ll hit two birds with one stone! To do this, you need to travel through Drabnir’s Grotto which is found in the sound of Battahl. Exit Drabnir’s Grotto to find a wounded dwarf.
The wounded dwarf requires three wildflowers. You can find many wildflowers nearby, so get what you need and return to the dwarf. Then, you need to escort the wounded dwarf to the hot springs in Volcanic Island Camp. This takes some time, and you’ll need to defeat a Minotaur and other enemies along the way. I recommend picking up the dwarf and carrying him when it’s safe to speed up the process.
After Put a Spring In Thy Step is completed, you need to visit the dwarf in his house which is called Windwalker’s Home and it’s just north of where you found him injured on the road. Talk to him at his house to find out that gwynfencha is Scalecinder.
He’ll point you toward a blacksmith in Bakbattahl who can procure Scalecinder for you. Once you acquire Scalecinder, you can return to Sacred Arbor, talk to Doireann, and finish The Ailing Arborheart quest. Hopefully, you have plenty of Ferrystones for the trip.
