How to evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Indigo Disk, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s second DLC, introduced a new evolution for Applin: Hydrapple. Hydrapple is actually an evolution for Dipplin, which was previously introduced in The Teal Mask DLC. To evolve your Dipplin, you’ll need to play a chunk of the expansion’s story to get the required item, though.

Below we detail where to find an Applin to evolve and how to evolve it into a Hydrapple in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

You can find Applin even without the DLC in any of the locations below:

You can use a dragon-type sandwich to help boost the encounter rate of Applin. We use the “Great Avocado Sandwich,” which consists of avocado, smoked fillet, tomato, and salt. With this sandwich, we didn’t even have to knock it out of trees — they were just rolling around outside of Medali.

To get a Dipplin, you’ll need to evolve your Applin using a Syrupy Apple. It also may appear in four-star Tera Raid battles, according to Serebii.net, but you’re probably better off just catching an Applin and evolving it yourself.

Once you have your Dipplin in-hand, you’ll just need to teach it the move “Dragon Cheer,” which it learns from TM226.

You can get TM226 from beating Drayton, the dragon-type specialist, in the BB League Elite Four. Once you get it, you can make more copies of the TM at a crafting machine by using 1,500 LP, an Applin Juice, two Tatsugiri Scales, and two Lapras Teardrops.

After teaching Dragon Cheer to your Dipplin, just level it and it’ll evolve into Hydrapple.

If you haven’t unlocked the BB League Elite Four matches yet, just keep playing The Indigo Disk’s storyline and it won’t take long until you’re able to battle the Elite Four.
