How to enable classic Hitmarker sounds in Modern Warfare 3

I hear the classic hitmarker sound from Modern Warfare 3 in too many places. I hear it in dreams, I hear it in day-to-day life, and so, obviously, I want to hear it in the newest Modern Warfare 2 as well.

The sound is iconic. It has made its way into many videos, clips, and TikToks, becoming a meme worthy of the Hall of Fame. There is good reason for this. The satisfying bullet connection sound hits just right, letting you know you’re burying lead into your enemies, be it point blank with a shotgun or across a map with a sniper.

How to turn on the classic hitmarker audio in MW3

You can get that sweet, classic hitmarker sound back in Modern Warfare 3 with only a few simple steps. Modern Warfare 3 knows its audience well and wouldn’t dream of denying you that audio treasure. However, it is slightly buried in menus, so it takes a little finding.

Simply open up your settings in Modern Warfare 3 and locate the audio settings on the side menu. At the very bottom of this list, you need to locate the option for functionality. Here you will find all sorts of options for the sound effects in the game, so tweak them as you see fit.

You should be able to locate one option called Hitmarker Sound Effects. With this menu, you can select the classic hitmarker audio or the new MW3 sound or just turn them off completely if you want a more realistic experience.

This level of attention and customizability is fantastic for MW3. It means that all players can get exactly the experience they want. This is important for a game that wants to be considered for E-Sports. Everyone has their own style, but personally, I like the classics. It’s probably because I am really old.
