General Tips & Tricks

The fight against the Recreant Knight is the first time players will be tasked with employing strategy and tactics to take down the enemy in Forspoken, as most foes prior to this battle are standard opponents. Because of this, it is easy to get caught off guard when the difficulty ramps up. The list of tips below are things players should keep in mind before, and during, the fight.

  • Be light on your feet. This is important in all of Forspoken’s boss battles, but it is imperative when fighting against the Recreant Knight.
  • Scan the Recreant Knight early on in the fight. Players can use Cuff’s scanning ability against all enemies to reveal tips and weak points. This is an important step in the fight against the Recreant Knight, as it is only susceptible to damage when Frey attacks its wings.
  • Lock-on to your enemy. Because the Recreant Knight has such a small hitbox during the first few phases of the battle, it can be tough to get accurate shots. Using the lock-on feature to target the boss’ wings will yield great results.
  • Keep your distance. Frey shouldn’t be fighting up close and personal with the Recreant Knight. Most of its attacks after phase 1 are melee strikes, so staying far away lessens your chances of getting hit.

Recreant Knight – Phase 1

Forspoken-Recreant-Knight-Boss-Fight-Phase-1-2

The Recreant Knight’s body is magic resistant during this phase (and the following phase) of the fight. For this reason, players should only aim for the enemy’s wings. The wings will take substantial damage from any attack thrown at them. Because of the fight’s setup, players should aim for one wing at a time. Taking one of these weak points down to zero health will result in the loss of the wing and the Knight taking massive amounts of damage.

Because the Recreant Knight will have both wings during most of this phase, the attacks levied at Frey will be mostly air-based. These can be tough to dodge, but staying in constant motion when the enemy takes flight is the best bet at avoiding damage. The boss can still be damaged while in the air, but staying stationary to aim at the wings during these moments can be dangerous, especially on higher difficulties. Scatter Shot is a great spell to use during all phases of this fight as it allows players to deal constant damage to the targeted areas. Using Bind on the enemy when it lands on the ground can present the opportunity for heavy damage to be dealt.

Recreant Knight – Phase 2

Once players have dealt enough damage to the enemy to remove one of the wings, the next phase of this fight will commence. In this section, the Recreant Knight will primarily use ground-based melee attacks to target Frey. These attacks are easy enough to avoid, but it is important that players continue moving. Standing still for too long gives the boss the chance to deal devastating amounts of damage.

The goal during this phase is the same as the first, take out the enemy’s wing. There will only be one left by this point, so aiming can be a bit tricky. This is why it is also important for players to use the lock-on mechanic to increase their chances of hitting the target.

Recreant Knight – Phase 3

The third and final phase of this battle will be the easiest. In this section, both of the Recreant Knight’s Wings will be unusable, resulting in the boss employing only slower spear attacks that are easily avoided. Players can use any of their magic attacks to damage the Knight, but should still rely on the Scatter Shot and Bind combo for quick success. While this is the easiest phase of the fight, players can still be defeated quickly if they sustain enough damage, so there should still be a heavy emphasis on dodging the sweeping attacks that the Recreant Knight will throw.

Rewards For Defeating Recreant Knight

Once players have completed the fight against the Recreant Knight, they will receive a permanent increase in their Stamina. It will increase by +100, which is a useful reward as it allows Frey to sprint and run for longer while exploring the open areas and also allows for more dodging to take place in battles.
