How to defeat Gigas in ‘Stellar Blade’

Gigas in the first main Alpha Naytiba you will fight in Stellar Blade. This huge boss is ferocious with his spiked-circular head, and attack pattern that resembles a gorilla or ape. For new players to this style of action game, it can be a big challenge.

However, we have put together a solid list of tips for how you can bring down Gigas quickly and complete Adam’s initial mission on Eidos 7.

How to defeat Gigas in Stellar Blade

To defeat Gigas in Stellar Blade you want to:

  • Focus on blocking and parrying attacks – Gigas uses heavy attacks, with long windups which can be parried easily.
  • Use Beta attacks to cancel Gigas’ attacks – If you use Beta attacks as Gigas is winding up an attack you can easily cancel them.
  • Always dodge several times when Gigas uses unblockable attacks – These attacks that have a yellow glow can’t be blocked, so you need to dodge away from Gigas several times to avoid his hits or slams.
  • Blink as often as you can – When an attack has a blue glint you can Blink behind Gigas if you time it correctly. This is a huge opportunity to land a strong combo or Beta attack. If you don’t have the skill try to farm enemies and grab it from the skill tree before taking on Gigas again.

Gigas is quite a simple fight when you break his attacks down. Gigas can easily overwhelm you thanks to his rapid flurry of slams and swipes, but effectively you almost always want to block or parry everything, besides a few attacks, we go into further detail about below.

The easiest attacks to block are his simple fist slams which form his basic combo string. Blocking one or two of these in a row will stun Gigas briefly.

As mentioned in the initial tips list, unblockable yellow attacks can be deadly if you are hit by them in this fight. There are two main ones to watch out for. The first is an earthquake which involves Gigas putting its fist into the ground in front of it. To dodge this you want to dodge to the right or left two-to-three times. The second is a rock throw where you have more time to dodge. It’s best to dodge two or three times after it has grabbed the rock to ensure you aren’t hit by it.

At the mid-point in the fight, Gigas will also start jumping towards you a bunch. These attacks are really hard to dodge, so try to get out of the way, but if you can’t, heal up as soon as you can. It’s best to take as little damage as possible in the rest of the fight so you can heal when hit by these unblockable attacks.

Gigas also has a final unblockable attack which is in the middle of a regular attack combo. To dodge this you want to dodge backwards three times or more, as much as the game will let you – as it is extremely easy to get caught in his swipes and slams. You can also use a Beta attack during these or during its regular combo to stun it briefly.

Finally, whenever Gigas performs an attack with a blue glow, you want to use Blink. It will always follow this up with a lot of melee attacks and a Blink can completely counteract this and stun him out of his combo. This can open it up for half-a-dozen hits or one or two strong Beta attacks.

At the midpoint of the fight, Gigas will get flaming fists which can cause pools of magma to build up during slams and large attacks. This is even more of a reason to play cautious and not get greedy. Overall, though, the fight doesn’t change much beyond this.

After a try or two, you should learn Gigas’ attack patterns and be able to make quick work of him, especially if you are landing perfect parries and able to get off a Retribution attack or two.

With Gigas defeated you can continue through the main story and complete more requests like the Simple Puzzle quest and Wisdom puzzle quest in Stellar Blade. Keep an eye out for all the Stellar Blade Passcodes too, of which we have them all listed in our guide.
