Requests in Resident Evil 4 Remake can oftentimes have Leon backtracking and further exploring areas you’ll usually just run through during the main story. While some requests require the player to do more to complete them, some requests are incredibly simple and will have you walk right past completing them if you don’t know what to look for.
The Insect Hive request is one of the ones that are incredibly simple, as you’ll walk around the nest and fight off its inhabitants to escape the underground area. Having Luis along for added firepower can also make this request one of the easier ones, even if he’s not always draining his ammo reserves like Leon.
Surviving The Hive
Both this request and completing the main story associated with this area will have Leon and Luis taking the long way around the central hive to escape the tunnels. As you run around this massive cavern, you’ll be encountered by many Novistadors flying out to attack you. Even as you destroy the nests, there will be a seemingly endless supply of them, and both you and Luis can be overwhelmed easily.
These creatures are able to land and be very still, with their skin changing colors to blend in with the surrounding rocks. Be sure to double-check the area ahead and not blindly run forward, as you’ll already have threats above, and one more jumping at you from the group can quickly leave you grappled. As Novistadors spawn from the nest and fly towards you, they can be shot down. Hitting one with enough firepower in the air will have it drop; if it drops over the chasm, it will immediately finish the bug. Enemies killed with this method won’t drop any items but will allow you to kill them much quicker.
Destroying The Hive’s Entrances
There are a total of four entrances to the hive you need to destroy. The hive is the massive structure in the center of the chamber you’ll be running around as you try to escape and get above the ground. The entrances are the yellow groups of egg-like sacs on the hive, and while the entrances may seem large, they can only be destroyed by shooting the small glowing sac attached to the entrance. These smaller sacs are easy to spot but make for a more difficult target than the entire entrance due to their small size. A rifle with a scope can make hitting each sac much easier.
As you run along the path around the cavern to the entrance, continue to check the entrances to get a proper angle on the glowing sacs. The proper angels are first seen right after you get the request, up until you’re about to exit the cavern. All the entrances are a part of the same structure, and you’ll usually see which one is next after lining up the right shot on one.
