How to change your name in Destiny 2

Don’t worry, changing your name will not require you to appear before a judge. At least not this time. Here is how to change your name in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: How to change your name

If you are a Destiny 2 veteran, you know that while changing your name is nothing out of the ordinary, to be allowed to change it is the tricky part. This is because, historically, you were only able to change your name once. Not only that but the name you are given originally once you create your account and play the game is automatically determined by Bungie based on your platform’s name.

So, essentially, you only get to pick your name once. Well, Into the Light is here to change that. You will now have an extra opportunity to change your name, and, if you haven’t used your one-time name change yet, this new extra name change will stack, giving you two opportunities to change your name. Here is a step-by-step on how you can change your name in Destiny 2:

  • Login to your Bungie.net account through the platform of your choice.
  • Go to your Settings and locate the Identity Settings.
  • In the Bungie Name box, choose your new Name – and be sure it does not violate Bungie’s policies or Code of Conduct. Basically, be nice.
  • Press the Save button and voilá, your new name is ready!

This is a nice addition for all of those Guardians who have been stuck with an outdated name for years. Remember, while you have a new opportunity to change your name, this new name will indeed be permanent moving forward. It is unclear if Bungie will be able to change this in the future, so take that into account. You will also be able to edit your appearance as much as you like, so maybe a new name requires a new face, body, hair, and even markings!
