Rainbow Trout Info And Uses

The Rainbow Trout are fish in freshwater that have colorful markings on them. The fishing EXP you get from catching them is an average amount. They can be eaten for 65 Energy and 29 Health each, and they can be sold for up to 195g — if you sell one of iridium quality with the Angler skill.

These fish aren’t needed for any Community Center bundles, but they can be very useful in other areas. They’re required for a variety of quests on the Help Wanted and Special Orders board, the latter of which will reward you with the Farm Computer recipe. They’re also used in Trout Soup, along with any other recipes where any fish will suffice.

When making Sashimi without the Fisher or Angler skills, make sure to only use normal Rainbow Trout so that you don’t lose out on the fish’s value.

They’re great fish to keep in ponds as well. They produce Roe as soon as one Rainbow Trout populates the pond. Once the population reaches nine, they’ll produce more valuable items like Rainbow Shells and even Prismatic Shards (with a 0.9% chance).

As usual when it comes to fish, the Rainbow Trout in Stardew Valley are not an amazing gift for anyone. They’re neutral gifts for Willy, Demetrius, Pam, Linus, Sebastian, Elliot, and Leo. They are disliked or hated by everyone else.

Where And When To Find Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout can be found during Summer between 6AM and 7PM. They can be caught in the rivers of Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest, as well as the lake in the Mountains. These areas are available to you as soon as you start the game, so there’s nothing to worry about in the way of unlocking these locations.

They can only be caught in sunny weather as well. If it’s rainy, then you shouldn’t spend time trying to find them (your time would be better spent trying to catch fish only found in rain instead, like the Red Snapper).

No festivals will get in the way of you accessing the areas where you can catch the Rainbow Trout, since all Summer festivals take place on the Beach.

Rainbow Trout Catching Tips

The Rainbow Trout are fish with a difficulty of 45 and a behavior of “Mixed.” This means they move normally and at a speed that’s easy to follow. As long as you get to the fishing spots and have plenty of time, you can catch them with no problems. You don’t need to worry about using a better fishing rod or having bait (though having bait definitely helps if you’d like to catch more than one).

The best fishing spot can vary depending on a variety of factors. If you want the best fishing spot in terms of time, then you’ll want to go to the river in Cindersap Forest. It’s the fastest area to get to since it’s right below your farm. Going to the other fishing areas require you to go through a separate area between them.

In terms of available fish, you’ll want to go to Pelican Town’s river if you want the least amount of fish getting in the way. Including the Rainbow Trout itself, Pelican Town’s river only holds five things you can catch on a sunny day, one of which only pops up at 6PM. If you want the possibility of catching even more fish, then your best option is the Mountain lake. Other than the Rainbow Trout, the Mountain’s fish are available during any weather. They’re also available for longer periods of time.

If you want to fish in either Pelican Town or the Mountain, be considerate of your fishing zone when casting your line. Simply put, each tile in the bodies of water have a zone that’s determined by how far it is from land on all sides. The zones go up to “5” and can determine several factors of the fish that you can catch. For those that want the least amount of fish involved, it might be in your best interest to not cast your fishing line too far from land, especially since the Rainbow Trout is an easy fish to catch. For those who want even more fish to catch, fishing as far from land as possible works out for you.
