Conditions For Catching Red Snapper

Fishing for a specific type of fish requires several elements to be in your favor. First, you must go out in the right season and cast a line at the optimal time of day. Then, players must also consider the best weather conditions and place the bobbers down into the right body of water to catch the fish they seek.

Season

Red Snappers prefer to be in somewhat warmer seasons for the most part. They will spawn during Summer and Fall naturally, and with the help of an item, can show up in the Winter month as well. They do not appear in the Spring at all.

Time of Day

Some fish have small windows of opportunity to catch them. This isn’t the case for the Red Snapper. It can be fished at any point from 6 am to 7 pm of in-game time. After 7 pm, it’s best to rest for the next ideal day in order to catch this fish.

Weather

Rain is the element players will need in order to coax the Red Snapper into biting during Summer and Fall. This is also why it is possible to get Red Snappers in the Winter. Simply pop a rain totem the day before you want to go fishing in Winter, and this will draw the red fish back to the surface for you to get.

Location(s)

Head down to the beach to get this aquatic beast. Red Snappers can only be caught wild on the shores near Willy’s Shop and Elliot’s House. The pier is a nice casting-off point when trying to get this fish to bite, but anywhere along the ocean beach will do in a pinch.

Red Snapper Scaling

All fish count as a type of harvested item in Stardew Valley. That means that they scale in quality. The quality scaling is attached to prices and experience gained from fishing a Red Snapper.

Experience Rates

Players that get the basic Red Snapper will be gaining 16 fishing experience points. Those that take that up a notch to a silver quality Red Snapper get a boosted 19 points teetering towards the 20s range.

Golden Red Snappers will take that 19 into the 20s at a rate of 22 points per golden fish. Getting an Iridium quality fish will bring players to the maximum experience grab of 28 points per Red Snapper.

Sale Prices

Selling fish is a good way to make money in Stardew Valley. The better the farmer gets at fishing the higher their level goes. When they reach levels 5 and 10, there are choices that allow them to boost the sale price of fish. Fisher at level 5 increases the sale price to 25% while Angler at 10 increases it to 50%.

Quality Base Price Fisher Buff Angler Buff
Basic 50 62 75
Silver 62 77 93
Gold 75 93 112
Iridium 100 125 150

Uses Of The Red Snapper

All harvested items have some type of use for players. When it comes to fish, they can be used in certain recipes. They can also be requested by some villagers or the Junimo as well as simply given out to folks. Placing fish into Fish Ponds also gives special items unique to some fish as well as roe which can be left as is or aged.

Recipes

There are no specific cooking recipes associated with the Red Snapper. Instead, it can be used as a filler fish in Maki Rolls, Sashimi, and Quality Fertilizer. Should someone wish to have a Sailor Top, they can put the Red Snapper into a sewing machine to make that particular top.

Gifting and Requests

The Red Snapper is a requested item for the Ocean Fish Bundle to repair the Fish Tank in the Community Center. Handing this and the rest of the needed fish to the Junimo will grant the farmer 5 Ocean Warp Totems as a reward.

No one likes Red Snappers as a gift making the description of this fish puzzling. It’s said to be a popular fish with a nice red color in the game files, but no one likes it and most people dislike it. That makes it even stranger when it shows up on the community board as a requested item. Most often it will be requested by Willy and Demetrius, but anyone can ask for one as an item delivery.

Fish Ponds

Putting a Red Snapper in a pond is an okay idea, but not always ideal. They have no secondary items to give, so the only thing they produce is their roe. They will self-populate their pond over time, but in order to get to max capacity, quests must be done. They can request anything from Seaweed and Driftwood to Aquamarines and Frozen Geodes. Not the most hard-to-please fish, but that doesn’t mean Red Snappers are low maintenance either.
