How To Build & Use The Cart

Trying to build a cart in Valheim? This guide will help you craft it and learn how to use it.

Tired of lugging your unrefined ore in tedious inventory-fulls, running back and forth tens of times just to get all your hard-won metal back to the Smelter? You might’ve missed one of the most convenient vehicles in all of Valheim: the Cart.

The Cart is an easy-to-craft way of transporting heavy goods over land, but if you’ve been moving between biomes quickly, you might not have unlocked the recipe or taken the time to figure out what the Cart does. Here’s how you can craft the Cart for yourself and start using it to lug those heavy ores around.

How To Craft The Cart

All you need to make the Cart is 20 Wood, 10 Bronze Nails, and a Workbench nearby. If you don’t have Bronze yet, you’ll need to get some from ore veins in the Black Forest. To make Bronze Nails, just take a Bronze Bar over to the Forge, and you should be able to make them.

It’s a simple recipe that lets you make a Cart anywhere with only two inventory slots worth of materials. As an added bonus, every component you need is also teleportable, meaning you can always leave your Cart supplies at home and grab them whenever you need them.

How To Use The Cart

To start lugging the Cart around, simply walk to the front part with two spokes, aim at them, and interact. A rope will leash the cart to you, and it’ll now follow you wherever you go. The benefit of this is that the Cart comes with a sizable inventory that you can dump all your excess materials into, similar to how boats have inventory slots.

The Cart, unlike you, can hold any amount of weight, but it gets a bit harder to move the heavier it gets. On top of that, you’ll have to make sure the Cart doesn’t take too much damage from falling or the stray enemy attack.

Pulling the Cart takes a lot of time and stamina, especially if you’re going uphill, so it’s best used to transport metals, ores, and other materials that you can’t teleport. On top of their main use, Carts can also make for great storage and can be a great way to extend your inventory while farming wood or stone near the base.
