How many Lightroots are in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Wondering how many Lightroots there are in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? These dormant beacons reside in the Depths below Hyrule and correspond directly with Shrine locations.

How many Lightroots are in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

There are 120 Lightroots scattered throughout the game just like Shrines, however, Lightroots are kind of like the inverse of Shrines. The difference is that Lightroots can be activated to illuminate the surrounding area in the Depths and clear the darkness.

The real benefit to finding Lightroots is that each corresponds with the coordinates of a Shrine in the land of Hyrule above. The converse is also true with Shrines when it comes to finding all of the Lightroots. This makes Lightroots worth finding if you’re having trouble locating specific Shrines but would rather do it without using guides.

Another interesting aspect about Lightroots is that each named Lightroot corresponds with the name of the Shrine above. The clever bit is that the name of the Shrines is spelled backwards for the name of the corresponding Lightroot.

Why you should look for Lightroots in the Depths

This gives good reason to exploring the Depths more, and there are plenty of things you’ll discover along the way down there. This includes getting the Depths armor, collecting Poe Souls, and even replaying boss fights.

Just know that it’s no small task to activate all 120 Lightroots in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at different locations around the Depths. If you like the idea of being a completionist, Tears of the Kingdom will keep you busy for a long while. The reward isn’t anything substantial though. You’ll receive an achievement, but Lightroots seem to be more of a reason to explore the Depths and gain insight to finding all of the Shrines.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
