If you’re going to travel the Nine Realms in God of War Ragnarok, you’ll want to make good use of Mystic Gateways to fast travel around.
God of War Ragnarok has exploded onto the scene with breathtaking visuals, well-designed characters, and nine realms just waiting to be explored. It’s an enormous setting to journey through, and you’ll be seeing quite a bit of it. If you want to be efficient during your travels, you’ll want to figure out how to use Mystic Gateways. You’ll unlock many of them through the main story, at least enough to get to all nine realms. However, that doesn’t account for additional gateways and moving from place to place within a single realm. You’re not always looking to hop to a different realm, after all.
The most important thing to note is that the game doesn’t have what you might consider to be a traditional fast travel system. You can’t just open up your map, select a destination, and teleport there magically. So, if you’ve come seeking some guidance on how best to use these Mystic Gateways, you’ve come to the right place. Before we begin, keep in mind that the Mystic Gateways are closed at the beginning of the game. Story progression will unlock this method of travel for you.
Unlocking Mystic Gateways
You’ll unlock many mystic gateways as you travel through the main story of the game, but there are always additional areas to be explored. On occasion, your exploring might reward you as you stumble upon a new Mystic Gateway, allowing you to travel from or return to that location at any time. You always want to keep an eye out for those Mystic Gateway rock formations, because the more you unlock, the easier it will be to get around. Sometimes your companion might comment on the presence of a Mystic Gateway when you’re near one. Typically, being close to one is all it takes to unlock it. You don’t have to use it.
Selecting Your Destination
Once you’re close to a Mystic Gateway and select it, you’ll guide Kratos’ hand to the realm you wish to visit. Once you’ve selected the realm and a Mystic Gateway within that realm, you’re good to go through the door. If you’re looking to travel within your existing realm, select it, and you’ll see a map pop up of where you are. Then you’re free to select any other mystic gateway in that realm. This will allow you to cover a lot of ground without running everywhere.
Traveling Through The Gateway
Once you’ve gone through the door, you’ll run along the Yggdrasil Tree in the realm between the realms. As you run, you might enjoy a conversation with your companions or listen in on some of their banter. After you’ve run for a little bit, a door made of light will appear in front of you. Go through it, and you’ll be in the location you selected. It’s just that simple. Now you’re free to travel the realms to your heart’s content.
