**WARNING: This post contains spoilers for Demon Slayer anime and manga.”The Entertainment District Arc’s final episode ended the long battle between the demon siblings and the Demon Slayers. It wasn’t just a great season from the action perspective, but it also made the story enjoyable by giving us a good hint regarding a strong connection between Muzan Kibutsuji and the Demon Slayer Corps’ head Kagaya Ubuyashiki.
Things are going to get really serious in season 3, which is scheduled to release in April 2023. At the end of the Entertainment District, Muzan Kibutsuji summons Akaza, who deduces that this could only mean the Demon Slayer Corps have killed an upper-rank demon. With the upcoming season, we can also expect to explore more about the connection between Muzan and Kagaya.

What’s The Connection Between Muzan And Kagaya?
Kagaya Ubuyashiki gets information about the victory of Tengen and other Demon Slayers against Daki and Gyutaro. He is overwhelmed by the news and takes it as a good omen, considering it as a start for the end of Muzan’s reign. But at the same time, he is anguished by how things have been unfavorable for them for so many years. While expressing his hate for Muzan, Kagaya mentions that Muzan is the only disgrace to their entire family. This indeed gives us a hint that both characters are somehow connected to each other.
Chapter 137 of Demon Slayer, titled “Undying,” brings together the most prominent protagonist and the biggest antagonist of the show and reveals the relationship between them, which dates back thousands of years. Kagaya states that they both have shared the same family tree since long ago. This also surprises Muzan as he isn’t aware that he and Kagaya are related. When Muzan Kibutsuji was born, their family line got cursed, and as a result, every child who took birth in their family was born weak and died immediately. And this was quickly leading their family to the verge of extinction.
A priest then unveiled that it was happening due to the birth of a Demon in their bloodline. The only way to save the family from being wiped out was to dedicate everything to defeating that Demon. By doing so, the children’s birth will turn out to be normal, and their bloodline will be saved from extinction.
Kagaya Ubuyashi further reveals that their family has received wives from priests for generations. And although the children of their family do not die right after they are born, no one is able to live more than 30 years of age. This curse will be nullified after the death of Muzan Kibutsuji. That’s why thousands of years have passed since Kagaya’s bloodline dedicated their lives to fighting Muzan.
Kagaya’s Demise In Demon Slayer
As Kagaya is the head of the Demon Slayer Corps, Muzan obviously visited to kill him. Muzan notices that Kagaya is bedridden, and his flesh is rotting. After seeing him in terrible condition, Muzan mocks Kagaya by saying that he already smells like a corpse, while he has shown no sign of aging all these years. Muzan continued to berate him by saying that their efforts had been in vain for so long, despite the fact that they tried so hard to punish him.
Kagaya asks Muzan about his goal, to which he says that he wants to put his hands on Nezuko and become indestructible by conquering sunlight. But Kagaya shatters him by saying that his dream will never come true. Kagaya then explains to him how he has invoked wrath upon himself by killing so many people. He says that human thoughts are indestructible as they pass on to another human being, but once Muzan dies, all Demons will die along with him. At the end of the chapter, Muzan is about to kill Kagaya, and a crow calls an emergency summon for all the Demon Slayers, and they rush toward the Ubuyashiki estate.
