Begin The Deluge In Scalding Spear

You’ll encounter a character named Zokkah in the Scalding Spear. He will share with you the troubling news of the halted supply of Ashblood from the Bleeding Mark, which is situated to the north where the desert and mountain meet. Your task is to head there and investigate the situation.

Upon arriving in the Bleeding Mark, you’ll quickly realize that a fierce storm has ravaged the village with a mudslide, causing it to flood. A few survivors will be huddled around a campfire, desperate for help. It’s here that you’ll meet Natikka, who will inform you of others who are missing, including a person named Kentokk.

Aloy on her way to Metal Tower

While scanning the flooded village in search of other survivors, you’ll notice a towering structure in the distance. Your curiosity will drive you to swim toward it, and as you make your way, you’ll hear the other survivors who are trapped and unable to escape.

Upon reaching the tower, you’ll discover another one nearby that appears to have a way inside. But, with its height proving to be a challenge, you’ll have to use your wits to push a dead tree over it and create a makeshift bridge. Using your Pullcaster to navigate the obstacles, you’ll make your way to the top of the tower and jump to the next one.

As you jump on the ladder hanging in the middle of the tower, tragedy strikes as it breaks under Aloy’s weight, sending her tumbling into the water below. But, all is not lost, as the survivors you encounter there inform you about the situation of others who are trapped in a watchtower to the north. They also tell you that they feel hopeful after hearing about Natikka.

Finally, locate the vertical beam that you need to climb. Use your Pullcaster tool to pull down a straight platform from the wall. Proceed forward and lower another platform. Then, climb onto the ladder and search for an open vent. By doing so, you will provide a means of escape for the survivors.

Rescue The Grotto Watchtower Survivors

As you continue The Deluge side quest, your journey will lead you to the Grotto, a location situated to the north of the Metal Towers. Here, you’ll encounter a watchtower in ruins, and your task is to rescue any survivors who may be trapped inside.

However, as with most challenges in this game, the task at hand is far from simple. You’ll need to face off against fierce machines known as Burrowers and Snapmaws to clear the way for the survivors to escape. But, with the right strategy and technique, you can take these machines down and rescue the survivors.

Tips To Defeat Burrowers & Snapmaws

In Horizon Forbidden West, every enemy you face has a unique weakness that you can exploit to gain the upper hand in combat. The same applies to Burrowers and Snapmaws, and with the right strategy, you can take them down quickly and efficiently while minimizing the risk to yourself.

  • One of the best times to strike at the Burrowers is when they’re on their hind legs, as they’ll remain in this position for a few seconds, giving you the perfect opportunity to launch a stealth takedown.
  • Alternatively, you can aim for Burrowers’ eyes, which are a particularly vulnerable spot. By targeting their eyes and hitting them continuously, you can deal a significant amount of damage and take them down more quickly.
  • Using fire and shock works best for Snapmaws, causing them to take more damage. With your concentration ability, you can increase your accuracy and precision, making it easier to hit their weak points.

With the machines defeated, and the survivors rescued, Aloy speaks with them to gather more information. She informs them about Natikka’s camp and encourages them to go to her for safety. Aloy also tries to learn about Kentokk’s whereabouts, but unfortunately, she doesn’t receive any helpful information.

Nevertheless, the survivors do reveal to her the location of other individuals who are trapped along the eastern cliffs. With this new knowledge in mind, Aloy sets out to continue her mission of saving the other survivors.

Rescue Survivors On The Eastern Cliffs

The next challenge on your quest is to rescue the survivors trapped on the Eastern Cliffs. Your main objective is to move the crane close to them so they can come down safely. The catch: you need to ignite the Firegleam first by diving into the water. This will allow you to move the crane closer to the survivors, who are anxiously waiting for your help.

But, it’s not as simple as it seems. You need to remove the counterweight from your Pullcaster to lower the crane’s arm to the survivors. Since it still won’t be enough, you need to shoot the cable spool further to bring the arm down. Once the crane is in position, the survivors can step onto the arm and be safely lifted down. With this task accomplished, Aloy and the survivors can finally meet Natikka.

Upon returning to Natikka, she will inquire about Kentokk and divulge his past to you. She will recount how Kentokk was a tenacious fighter, stubborn and fierce. While you converse, one of the soldiers interjects with an update on Kentokk’s whereabouts. They explain that the flood had carried him away to an area known as the Gouge.

Locate & Rescue Kentokk

To reach Gouge, you’ll need to navigate to a hillside covered in debris and use your trusty Pullcaster to clear the way. Once you’ve cleared the entrance, you’ll rappel down a rope to find Kentokk in a critical state. Your next objective is to find a way to get him out of there. Search for a vent, climb up to it after opening it with your Pullcaster, and then clear a series of obstacles.

Climbing up through a crate, you’ll see another vent which is a dead end, so there has to be another way to move ahead. Moving further, you’ll see metal attached to the wall, pulling it will open up a new path for you to grapple. As you make your way further, you’ll find a Firegleam that you can ignite, causing the area to flood and allowing Kentokk to float up to safety.

Finally, you can escape. After reuniting and speaking with Natikka, your side quest, The Deluge, will be complete. With challenging enemies, clever tasks, and an amazing storyline, this side quest in Horizon Forbidden West takes you on a thrilling journey to rescue survivors.
