Holly Willoughby apologises to Sally Lindsay over Paul O’Grady blunder | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

On Wednesday morning it was announced ITV presenter and comedian Paul O’Grady had died on March 28 at the age of 67. Speaking about his death, Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay appeared on This Morning to pay tribute to her long-standing friend.

Paul’s partner Andre Portasio announced the presenter, who was also known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home.

Tributes for the comedian have been flooding in from famous faces and fans across the world with many daytime shows speaking to friends of the late star.

One of which included This Morning with presenters Holly Willoughby and Joel Dommett speaking to Paul’s longtime friend and soap star Sally.

Appearing via videolink from her home, it was clear the 49-year-old was overcome with emotion as she told the ITV hosts the news of Paul’s death was quite a shock.

As she started to speak about their relationship, the ITV show flashed an image of Paul speaking to Sally, however, the actress quickly realised the image wasn’t actually of her.

She continued: “We had projects together and- that’s Jo Joiner, that’s not me.”

Noticing the image error Holly quickly replied: “Oh yeah, sorry about that.”

However, the actress didn’t seem to mind the mishap as she laughed it off telling the two hosts: “Everyone always gets us mixed up, that’s hysterical.

“He (Paul) would’ve loved that.”

Sally told the two presenters the last time she had spoken to Paul was last week but he quickly had to go because one of his pet pigs was ill and the vet was knocking at the door.

She added: “So, that was the last time I spoke to him. I never thought it was the last time, you never do, do you?”

Paying tribute to her friend, the actress described him as a whirlwind who was funny, intelligent and a social warrior.

Stating there was no one like him, Sally said: “He couldn’t bear what was going on at the moment with the working classes and the cost of living and he used to be incandescent about it.

“He never lost his roots like that. He was always a very real man but also a hysterically funny man.

“You’d go out for dinner with him and you’d be exhausted from laughing so much.”

Paul’s husband, who he married in 2017 released a statement informing the world of his death asking for people to respect their privacy as they come to terms with his loss.

Part of the statement read: “I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am
