After putting a few hours into your play-through of Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll unlock the ability to use some magical plants in battle, unleashing their unique power to take down your enemies. There are a handful of different plants for you to acquire, one of the most powerful being the screeching Mandrake.
Although you will be introduced to Mandrake in your first Herbology class, you won’t be able to equip and use it in battle until you have found someone who sells it, or until you acquire the seeds to grow it yourself. This guide will show you where to find Mandrake, and how to use it in battle.
Where To Find Mandrake
As you navigate throughout the Highlands surrounding Hogwarts, you will inevitably run into vendors on the road, each of which has a certain combination of items for purchase. Some of these vendors will sell mandrake that you can immediately use in battle, though finding these specific vendors can be a bit tricky since they are scattered throughout the world map.
Luckily, there is a more straightforward solution, Dogweed And Deathcap. Located in the northwestern part of Hogsmeade, this shop specializes in rare plants that you can buy to aid you in combat. In addition, you can also buy seeds to grow these lethal botanicals yourself.

How To Grow Mandrake
Once you have acquired mandrake seeds, you will be able to grow them in any small pot you have access to. Although you only purchase the seeds once, you can grow as many mandrakes with them as you like.
The first time you’ll grow your own plant is in your Herbology class, located in the Greenhouses section of the Library Annex. After finishing your initial class, Professor Garlick will grant you access to your first pot. The second pot you’ll likely get access to will be in the Room of Requirement. You’ll need to progress the story quite a bit before you’ll gain access to the room, but once you do, you can immediately create a Botanical Potting Table and start growing your own mandrake.
How To Use Mandrake In Battle
Now that you have acquired a mandrake or two, it’s time to mix them into combat. To do so, you’ll first need to equip the mandrake with your tool wheel. To do so, hold down L1 and move the right joystick over to mandrake to map it to your L1 button.
To activate it, simply tap L1 when in combat, and you will pull it out and unleash its fury on your enemies. Doing so will stun your enemies in a small area, giving you the opportunity to attack them while they are stunned. Be sure to mix this attack into your strategy often, and you’ll take down even the most terrifying enemies.
