Hogwarts Legacy has confirmed that the voice of Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black will be none other than British actor, Simon Pegg.

Pegg is best known for his role as Shaun in the 2004 comedy horror movie, Shaun of The Dead. But is more recently known for his portrayal of Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible series, as well as Hugh Campbell in the hit TV series, The Boys. Now, Avalanche Software has confirmed that the famed actor will now become the Headmaster of Hogwarts in the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy.

A short video was also released on the official Hogwarts Legacy YouTube channel, featuring Simon Pegg himself. The almost 4-minute video delves deeper into the character of Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, who Pegg says is “the least popular headmaster in the history of Hogwarts.”

Aside from revealing that Phineas Nigellus Black is the least popular headmaster in the history of Hogwarts, Pegg describes the character as “pompous” and “disinterested”, whilst also stating that Black is not a good teacher or headmaster in any way. The video also shows a behind-the-scenes peek at Pegg recording some of his lines for the upcoming game.

Die-hard Harry Potter fans will already be well aware, but the breakdown of the character also confirms Phineas Black to be the great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black, the popular character from the original Harry Potter books and movies. But, despite holding the Black name, Pegg points out that Phineas Black doesn’t quite hold the same qualities as Sirius. Unlike his great-great-grandchild, Phineas isn’t “noble” or “brave”, and is simply a “self-interested fool”, Pegg says.

In terms of how Headmaster Black will affect the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy, Pegg says that he will be both a help and a hindrance to players working their way through the game. Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 10th. Previous-gen consoles will have to wait a little longer, as Avalanche Software recently confirmed that the release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One had been delayed to April 4th. The Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy will then be released a few months after, on July 25th.
