Tonight, we’ve been treated to a State of Play presentation from Sony.
We knew it was going to focus on some VR titles accompanied by games from third parties. More than that, though? It’s been a surprise. Don’t worry if you missed it; we’ve rounded everything up right here. So without further ado, here’s everything that was announced, revealed and shown off during today’s State of Play.
Resident Evil 4
There’s a Resident Evil 4 remake in the works, and it’s scheduled to release on 24th March 2023. We got a brief glimpse of cinematics, and it looks suitably creepy. We’re of course eager to find out more. It appears to be coming to PS5 with no PS4 version, and there’ll be some PSVR 2 content launching alongside it.
Resident Evil Village
Tall Vampire Lady is coming to PSVR 2. What more do you need to know? (God, we’re not looking forward to walking through that freaky doll house again in VR… going to need a change of underwear for that part, we reckon…)
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution
Who doesn’t love a good zombie survival game? Particularly in VR. This first person action game will see you make your way through a post-apocalyptic city, shooting, slicing and dicing your way through hordes of zombies. We really enjoyed the first part of Saints and Sinners, so we have high hopes for this, too.
No Man’s Sky
We’ve undoubtedly played it endlessly already, but No Man’s Sky is coming to PSVR 2, giving us another excuse to jump back in and explore the galaxy. Cool.
Horizon VR: Call of the Mountain
This is just about the only PSVR 2 title that we already know about, but we’ve finally got a better look at what to expect. It’s a world we’re very familiar with thanks to Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, but from a first-person VR perspective, it’s going to feel very different. You’re not playing as Aloy this time, either. We’re looking forward to coming face to face with a Tallneck, that’s for sure.
Horizon Forbidden West
There’s a big update landing today, bringing a new game plus mode, new skills, new outfits and a ‘Ultra Hard’ difficulty. Plus, new trophies. If you were needing a reason to jump back in, then, here you go.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Perhaps the best Marvel game to date is coming to PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available to PC gamers from 12th August.
Stray
We’ve been looking forward to Stray since it was first announced back in 2020. The game that has you playing as a cat in a strange, post-apocalyptic world looks as fantastic as ever. It looks like stealth is going to play a big part; after all, there’s not much combat that a kitty can do. And it’s coming to PS4 and PS5 sooner than we thought: 19th July! It’ll also be included in PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra on day one.
The Callisto Protocol
Here’s our first proper look at The Callisto Protocol since the announcement that it’s no longer set in the PUBG universe. It’s looking suitably freaky, and very much like the spiritual sequel to Dead Space that we’ve all been hoping for. Be warned: it’s not going to be one for the faint of heart, however. It’s coming to PS4 and PS5 on 2nd December. That’s a date for your diary. Hype.
Rollerdrome
Roll 7, developer of Olli Olli World, is back already with a new game. Rollerdrome sees you rollerstaking your way around a stylishly animated world, shooting folks as you go. It looks super slick, and it’s out soon: 7th August on PS4 and PS5.
Eternights
Okay, this looks great. Action-packed and beautifully animated, it looks to mix anime, combat, dating simulators and action RPGs, and we’re there for it. It’s coming to PS4 and PS5 in early 2023.
Street Fighter 6
We already knew Street Fighter 6 was on the way, but this is our first look at it. It’s looking more stylish than ever, and we’re here for it. It’s coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2023.
Tunic
You may have already played the cute fox adventure on Xbox or PC, but Tunic is soon making its way to PlayStation. It’s well worth checking out, too – give our review a read. It’ll be available on PS4 and PS5 on 27th September.
Season: A Letter to the Future
Well, this looks beautiful. It looks to be an adventure of discovery, meeting people and discovering the world. Exactly how the gameplay will pan out remains to be seen, but we’re here for it. It’s coming this autumn.
Final Fantasy XVI
Here’s another look at the next entry into the Final Fantasy series. And it looks… like Final Fantasy. With a bit of Game of Thrones thrown in: think epic, medieval style battles with some Final Fantasy summons thrown in for good measure. That’s the vibe we’re getting so far. Doesn’t sound like too much of a bad thing to us. Oh, and it’s coming summer 2023.
