HBO’s The Last Of Us: Who Is Frank?

While Frank’s role is quite limited in the game, HBO’s The Last of Us looks like it will expand this characters role in the show.

The Last of Us is HBO’s latest hit, pulling in 4.7 million viewers for their premiere and even more for episode two. While the audience is introduced to a fair number of characters during the first two episodes, Frank and Bill are mentioned but never shown. Episode one establishes the duo as suppliers for Joel and Tess. In episode 2, Tess is certain that the men will take care of Ellie if Joel convinces them. Episode three looks to feature the duo. From the preview, it seems as if we’ll be seeing a lot more of Frank and Bill than we did in the game.

If this is true, both characters will have expanded roles within the show. It remains to be seen if the show will change the relationship between these two men by the time they encounter Joel and Ellie in the present day.

Who Is Frank In The Show?

Murray Bartlett is playing Frank in the HBO adaptation. So far, Frank has been mentioned in both episodes one and two of the adaptation. Episode two’s previews show Frank and Bill’s first meeting, which means the audience will be seeing more of him very soon. The expanded role he’ll have in the show should give us more insight into his relationship with Bill.

Who Is Frank In The Game?

The game doesn’t tell the audience a lot about Frank. We know he and Bill were partners for about 20 years. They helped Tess and Joel from time to time with smuggling. When Joel and Ellie encounter Bill, he has already had a falling out with Frank. We learn that Frank took a bunch of supplies and the car battery and left.

When Joel, Bill, and Ellie get to Bill’s truck with their battery, they find Frank’s hanging body in the same house. Frank also left Bill a note claiming he hated Bill’s guts and that anything was better than living with him. It’s presumed that Frank committed suicide after becoming infected. While Bill tries to shrug off the death of his partner, it clearly hurts him to know how Frank really felt in the end.
