Neil Druckmann, the writer of The Last of Us video game and TV show, has revealed that discussions are underway on the direction for a potential Season 2 of the HBO original series.
In a Buzzfeed interview, Druckmann–also a director and executive producer on the series–responded to a series of questions regarding the video game adaptation, talking about the recent success and how he will sometimes even cry while watching the show.
On the topic of season 2, the director confirmed that there have been discussions with HBO about a possible second season. “We have had conversations about where we would go if we get renewed,” Druckmann said.
“Nothing has been official yet. The response so far has been incredible–reviews, fans, coming off the first episode–so we just pray that people will keep watching, we’ll keep having this response, and there’ll be more story to tell.”
Star Bell Ramsey, who plays Ellie, said in a separate interview that they think a season 2 could happen, saying, “If people keep watching, I think [a second season] is pretty likely. It’s down to the guys at HBO.”
Elsewhere, The Last of Us fans seem to think that HBO has already cast the role of Abby Anderson for season 2 of the show, despite it not being confirmed.
