Druckmann has revealed there are at least two more seasons on the way.
Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, the showrunners behind HBO’s The Last of Us recently had an interview with GQ Magazine, where they hinted at the existence of a third season for the series on top of the already confirmed Season 2.
When the interviewer of GQ asked Druckmann about how Season 2 could encompass all the events of the second game, he teased that there is more than one season left. “It’s more than one season,” said Druckmann. “You have noted correctly that we will not say how many. But more than one is factually correct. [Laughs],” confirmed Mazin.
The first season of HBO’s The Last of Us series came to an end last night with the release of Episode 9. While the first season already differentiated itself from the original game in some points story-wise, Craig Mazin pointed out that fans can expect a similar approach in the second season as well. The writer claimed that sometimes the difference between games and TV series could be radical.
“It will be different just as this season was different [from the first game],” Mazin says. “Sometimes it will be different radically, and sometimes it will be [barely] different at all. But it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make. But we are making it with Bella.”
HBO’s The Last of Us series reached an eye-catching success with its first season, which also helped the sales of the original game’s remake on PlayStation 5.
Overall, the viewers seem satisfied with the quality of the series in the first season, as it managed to reach one of the top spots on IMDB and received favourable review scores.
