Halloween is an iconic horror staple, and it’s set to get a new Unreal Engine 5 game with none other than original director John Carpenter attached and “intimately involved”.

As revealed by IGN, not one, but two new games based on the 1978 film are in the works at Boss Team Games. One is being made in Unreal Engine 5 and is being worked on closely by Carpenter, and the other is a 16-bit platformer that aims to capture the essence of ’90s arcade games.

As for the Unreal Engine project, Carpenter said, “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.”

The Unreal game aims to allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characterse from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” It’s still in early development, so don’t expect to get your hands on it this Halloween, but maybe one in the future.

“Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true,” says Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris. “Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”

Neither of these games have a release date yet, so don’t hold your breath just yet, but do be sure that more news will come out about the projects in the coming months.

In other news, amid the Borderlands film flop, developer Randy Pitchford has dropped a hint that the game team is working on another numbered entry in the series.
