Despite being able to approach end-of-game Gyms early on in the game, most Trainers will want to go in order to prevent being obliterated by advanced Gym Leaders. We have pulled together the best order to complete the Victory Road Gyms, so you can earn every Badge with no sweat and gradually build your team.

First Gym: Cortondo Gym (Bug-Type)

The first gym every Victory Road Trainer should approach is the Cortondo Gym, featuring the Bug-Type Leader Katy. The Pokemon in this gym are exceptionally easy to defeat. Katy’s team consists of the following:

  • Nymble (Level 14)
  • Tarountula (Level 14)
  • Teddiursa (Level 15)

As a Bug-Type Gym, your team should consist of any Pokemon that are Fire, Flying, or Rock-Type. These Types will do significant damage to her lineup, and it should be a quick battle. After you defeat Katy, you will receive 2,700 Pokemon Dollars and TM021 (Pounce). You will also be able to control any Pokemon Level 25 and under.

Second Gym: Artazon Gym (Grass-Type)

The next gym for Pokemon Trainers to take on will be the Artazon Gym, featuring the Grass-Type Leader Brassius. His Pokemon will not be significantly higher in level than Katy’s, so this gym should also be a cakewalk. Brassius’ team consists of the following:

  • Petilil (Level 16)
  • Smoliv (Level 16)
  • Sudowoodo (Level 17)

As a Grass-Type Gym, you can bring along any Pokemon that are Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, or Poison-Type. These Types will have a large advantage over Brassius’ lineup, which shouldn’t take long to defeat. After you complete the gym, you will get 3,060 Pokemon Dollars and TM020 (Trailblaze). You will also be able to control any Pokemon Level 30 and under.

Third Gym: Levincia Gym (Electric-Type)

Next up, you will want to take on the Electric-Type Leader, Iono, at the Levincia Gym. You will need to build up your Pokemon a bit before taking on this gym, as the levels of Iono’s Pokemon have a decent increase from Brassius.’ Iono’s team consists of the following:

  • Wattrel (Level 23)
  • Bellibolt (Level 23)
  • Luxio (Level 23)
  • Mismagius (Level 24)

As an Electric-Type Gym, you will want to have any Ground-Type Pokemon in your team. This is the only Type that is Super Effective against Electric, so you will want to bring at least one Pokemon that is Ground-Type. Once you defeat Iono, you will receive 4,320 Pokemon Dollars and TM048 (Volt Switch). You will also be able to command any Pokemon Level 35 and under.

Fourth Gym: Cascarrafa Gym (Water-Type)

The next gym you will want to defeat is the Cascarrafa Gym, featuring the Water-Type Leader Kofu. Before you take on Kofu, you will want to train your Pokemon a bit and increase them to around level 30 or higher. Kofu’s team consists of the following:

  • Veluza (Level 29)
  • Wugtrio (Level 29)
  • Crabominable (Level 30)

As a Water-Type Gym, try to take along any Pokemon that are either Electric or Grass-Type. As this gym is harder to defeat than previous ones, it is best to try to get your Pokemon to at least a few levels above 30. Avoid taking any Fire, Ground, or Rock-Types. After you beat Kofu, you will receive 5,400 Pokemon Dollars and TM022 (Chilling Water). Now, you will also be able to control any Pokemon Level 40 and under.

Fifth Gym: Medali Gym (Normal-Type)

Our next gym will be the Medali Gym, featuring the Normal-Type Leader Larry. His Pokemon will only be about 5 levels higher than Kofu’s. Larry’s team consists of the following:

  • Komala (Level 35)
  • Dudunsparce (Level 35)
  • Staraptor (Level 36)

There is only one Type that is Super Effective against Normal-Types, and it is Fighting-Type. His final Pokemon, Staraptor, will also be a Flying-Type, so you’ll need to use Electric, Ice, or Rock-Type against it. After you defeat Larry, you will receive 6,480 Pokemon Dollars and TM025 (Facade). You will also now be able to command any Pokemon Level 45 and under.

Sixth Gym: Montenevera Gym (Ghost-Type)

The next gym you should approach is the Montenevera Gym, featuring the Ghost-Type Leader Ryme. Her Pokemon will be in the range of level 40, so you will want to build up your Pokemon a bit before approaching this gym. Ryme’s team consists of the following:

  • Mimikyu (Level 41)
  • Banette (Level 41)
  • Houndstone (Level 42)
  • Toxtricity (Level 42)

As a Ghost-Type Gym, you will want to bring along any Dark or Ghost-Type Pokemon. You should stick to Dark-Type, though, because Ghost-Type is effective against its own type, which means Ryme will have an advantage over your party, as well. After you defeat Ryme, you will receive 7,560 Pokemon Dollars and TM114 (Shadow Ball). You will also be able to control any Pokemon Level 50 and under.

The seventh gym on the list will be the Alfornada Gym, featuring the Psychic-Type Leader Tulip. This gym will not have a significant increase in the levels of the Pokemon. Tulip’s team consists of the following:

  • Farigiraf (Level 44)
  • Espartha (Level 44)
  • Gardevoir (Level 45)
  • Florges (Level 45)

With this Psychic-Type Gym, you will be able to take down Tulip’s team easily with any Bug, Dark, or Ghost-Type Pokemon. You will only need to avoid bringing along Fighting or Poison-Types for this battle. Once you beat Tulip, you will receive 8,100 Pokemon Dollars and TM120 (Psychic). Now, you will also be able to have control over any Pokemon Level 55 and under.

Eighth Gym: Glaseado Gym (Ice-Type)

The last gym you will want to compete with will be the Glaseado Gym, featuring Ice-Type Leader Grusha. This will be your final battle in the Victory Road path, but it shouldn’t be too daunting if you have been properly building up a strong team. Grusha’s team consists of the following:

  • Frosmoth (Level 47)
  • Beartic (Level 47)
  • Cetitan (Level 47)
  • Altaria (Level 48)

As an Ice-Type Gym, you will have quite a few types you can bring along that will be significantly effective, including Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel-Type. Rock is an especially good option since it is effective against Flying-Type, which is one of Altaria’s Types. Once you defeat Grusha, you will receive 8,640 Pokemon Dollars and TM124 (Ice Spinner). You will now also be able to command any Pokemon at any level, and you will have finished the Victory Road path.
